{"id":222,"date":"2020-11-29T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-11-29T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=222"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:30","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:30","slug":"welcome-friends-day-16-hq-2-197-210-pages-3132","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-16-hq-2-197-210-pages-3132\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 2: 197-210; pages 31+32"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp; <em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We had so much to discuss in yesterday\u2019s Reading.&nbsp; Was it too much?&nbsp; The idea is that we read the Qur\u2019an, find clarifications in reputable explanations such as Muhammad Asad &amp; Yusuf Ali\u2019s, and then just use this forum, as discerning readers, to pace ourselves, gain a deeper understanding through original definitions, and discuss certain points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>The general topic of Verses 197-203 is the Pilgrimage to Mecca, \u2018Hajj.\u2019&nbsp; This journey could be embarked upon months earlier, but one must make sure to spend a part of the 9<sup>th<\/sup> day of the 12<sup>th<\/sup> Lunar month, Thul Hijjah, at Mount Arafaat (see Yusuf Ali\u2019s note 217).&nbsp; Muhammad Asad calls this day at Arafaat \u2018the climax of the Pilgrimage\u2019 (see his note 184).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In Verse 197 are guidelines and recommendations related to one\u2019s <em>physical and spiritual presence<\/em> in Hajj:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Hajj is all about negating shirk, and directing ourselves (aim, intent, Qasd\/ \u0642\u0635\u062f) in a journey to the source of our existence.&nbsp; Even our ritual prayers are directed, by intent, towards the Kaaba. It is interesting to note that circumambulating the Kaaba, which is a \u2018rukn\/pillar\u2019 of Hajj, seems to be alluded to in the linguistic definition of the root-verb \u2018hajja,\u2019 the \u2018Hijaaj\u2019 being the circular socket of our eyes!<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verse 197 is also the first time the esteemed Uli Al Albaab\/ \u0623\u064f\u0648\u0644\u0650\u064a&nbsp;\u0627\u0644\u0652\u0623\u064e\u0644\u0652\u0628\u064e\u0627\u0628\u0650 are mentioned in the Quran. \u2018Lub\u2019 means the core\/heart of something.&nbsp; Arabs used the word to mean &#8216;mind,&#8217; as in &#8216;labeeb,&#8217; intelligent, or witty.&nbsp; But what is most important about this word is that the root verb \u2018labb\/labba\u2019 refers to being BOTH physically present AND emotionally settled and attached.&nbsp; In other words, each of those esteemed persons is a possessor of \u2018Lubb\/ \u0644\u0628\u2019 and is literally present, dedicated, and committed,<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a>&nbsp; with God Himself as Witness!&nbsp; What an honor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Indeed, the \u2018talbiyah\u2019 of Hajj is all about one\u2019s yearning attempt to rise to that level, pilgrims repeating &#8216;Labbeyk Allaahumma Labbeyk,&#8217;&nbsp; announcing&nbsp; and reaffirming their&nbsp; dedication and commitment to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">It is quite an attempt: One\u2019s physical presence in Hajj demanding a rise above earthly luxuries and desires, requiring an absence of obscenity, lewdness of speech, harmful or immoral conduct, and even arguments or quarrelling.&nbsp; The last one is not easy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">One\u2019s spiritual presence in Hajj requiring awareness of God and the remembrance of Him, asking His forgiveness, recognizing the value of His gifted-guidance, always rising in Awareness so that by the end of Hajj, no matter how attached we are to our roots, God would be The One to Whom we relate, knowing that it is to Him that we shall all be gathered. The embodiment of \u2018talbiyah,\u2019 presence, dedication, and commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">See Yusuf Ali, note 223, about the idolaters of Qureish relating to their forefathers. Again, Ali\u2019s translation of Taqwa as \u2018fear\u2019 ( -\u0648\u0627\u062a\u0642\u0648\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647last line, Verse 196) is not accurate; we already read in three previous verses (2:38, 62, 112) the concluding statement: \u2026 <em>no fear shall be upon them nor shall they grieve<\/em> \u0644\u064e\u0627 \u062e\u064e\u0648\u0652\u0641\u064c \u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u064a\u0652\u0647\u0650\u0645\u0652 \u0648\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0627 \u0647\u064f\u0645\u0652 \u064a\u064e\u062d\u0652\u0632\u064e\u0646\u064f\u0648\u0646\u2026 \u2018khawf\u2019 meaning fear. Please note that, whatever provision one might try to gather in life, whatever sustenance one might think would be best to partake of, this verse asserts that: Taqwa\/Awareness is the best of all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"2\"><li>Verse 201 presents us with a beautiful prayer to ask of God, to grant us a \u2018hasanah;\u2019 a good return for our deeds, both in this world and the next.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verse 204 warns us from falling under the influence of destructive people whose speech is attractive (I like Ali\u2019s translation: dazzling).&nbsp; Such persons could be the \u201cmost contentious of adversaries in a dispute\u201d (Asad: note 188).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">God does not like destructiveness\/corruption\/Fasaad, as mentioned in Verse 205.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The arrogant personality is portrayed so well in Verse 206:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">An arrogant person\u2019s demeanor is characterized by a refusal to admit wrongdoing, and especially when asked to be aware of God, you will find that person exuding even more arrogance in adherence to (and in defense of) the wrong committed. Then there are others whose only aim is to gain God\u2019s pleasure -and God is Most Kind with His worshippers. (I like Ali\u2019s explanation of Ibaad here as Devotees.&nbsp; Asad\u2019s \u2018servants\u2019 is the common understanding which should have only related to the plural \u2018Abeed,\u2019 as we mentioned earlier, and not \u2018Ibaad.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"3\"><li>Another call to Those Who Attained Faith in 208 is instructing them to enter thoroughly into Peace\/Silm,<a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> and to make sure they do not follow The Deviant\/SheyTaan\u2019s \u2018missteps\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> for he is to them an evident\/manifest enemy.&nbsp; The Deviant\u2019s missteps are mentioned 4 times in the Qur\u2019an (2:168; 2:208; 6:142; 24:21). The last of these verses (24:21) highlights for us and presents -in a nutshell- the lessons that can be learnt from Humanity\u2019s experience with the Deviant\/ Sheytaan whose \u2018deviant design\u2019 is to corrupt us so none of us would grow in purity.&nbsp; However, God\u2019s Mercy and instruction -if we followed it- would keep us safe:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cO YOU who have attained Faith! Do not trace\/follow the missteps of the Deviant\/Sheytaan: for whoever follows the missteps of the Deviant\/Sheytaan,<\/strong> <strong>he indeed commands to Pervasive Atrocity<a href=\"#_ftn5\"><strong>[5]<\/strong><\/a> and the Mutually Objectionable.<br>And if not for God\u2019s favor upon you and His Mercy, not one of you would have ever grown in purity<a href=\"#_ftn6\"><strong>[6]<\/strong><\/a>. For it is God who causes whomever He wills\/ whomever wills to grow in purity: for God is All-hearing, All-knowing.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly however, the Deviant (that which prods us to trespass against others or against what our mind\/heart tells us is best for us) has no power over Humans except the power of suggestion.&nbsp; It is we who fall into trespass on our very own (HQ: 14:22; 15:42; 17:65; 50:27).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\" start=\"4\"><li>The final verse in today\u2019s reading seems to tell people to stop setting up excuses for themselves.&nbsp; being physically present as well as emotionally settled and attached.&nbsp; This Arabic word must have been the origin of the English word \u2018love\u2019 -originally pronounced \u2018leubh,\u2019 which, as you see in below Etymology, is said to have emerged from Proto-Indo European. \u2018Proto\u2019 is a reconstruction of a theorized common ancestor, a hypothesis which -perhaps- had to be brought forth since Arabic was excluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u0644\u0628:&nbsp;
