{"id":255,"date":"2020-12-20T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-12-20T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=255"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:30","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:30","slug":"welcome-friends-day-23-hq-2-265-274-pages-4546","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-23-hq-2-265-274-pages-4546\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 2: 265-274; pages 45+46"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Today\u2019s reading (as well as tomorrow\u2019s) is all about how BEST to spend what we see as \u2018our\u2019 wealth, and the resources we \u2018control.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Although -in reality- it is NOT our wealth and we are only entrusted with it temporarily, we ARE fully responsible for it as long as it is within our reach (HQ57:7):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cBELIEVE in God and His Messenger, and spend (on others)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>out of that of which He has made you trus\u00adtees\/successors:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>for, those of you who have attained to faith and who spend freely<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>[in God\u2019s cause] shall have a great reward.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We stopped yesterday at verse 264 which offered a similitude, an example&nbsp;(made clear by the term \u201c<em>as in<\/em> a person who \u2026..\u0643\u0627\u0644\u0630\u064a\u201d) about someone who spends for public recognition and does not believe in God.&nbsp; That theme continues today with Verse 265, offering a contrasting example \u2018mathal\u0645\u062b\u0644-\u2019 in a community that is spending out of a longing for God\u2019s good pleasure, and in inner affirmation \u2018from their Selves.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;This is like a fertile garden on high ground upon which there is heavy rain.&nbsp;&nbsp;It will yield its crop twofold- and will even be productive with a light shower or a sprinkling of dew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The difference is in the foundation, the quality of the land itself, each of our individual selves\u2026 and NOT in whatever much or little may sustain us.&nbsp;&nbsp;Hypocrisy is indeed incomparable to Genuineness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Since we are all \u2018trustees\/successors\u2019 on earth, inheriting earth\u2019s bounties to dispose of and regenerate for future benefit, the next verse (266) calls upon us to behave indeed as responsible parents would, giving each other AND leaving the next generation the best we can provide.&nbsp;&nbsp;How would we feel in our weak old age, if we suddenly found all the wealth and gardens we\u2019d left for our children\u2026 go up in flames?&nbsp;&nbsp;That picture elicits our response, a potent realization to deal with now, when there STILL is something we can do about it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Although we might spend out of what we don\u2019t need, Verse 267 deters us from giving things we do not like to others, or things we consider unpleasant\/unwholesome\/foul&nbsp;(\u062e\u0628\u064a\u062b).&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;This is so important; God addresses our innermost intentions here, for only He knows them well and can call our genuineness to account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">4. Verse 268 tells us of the \u2018prodding\u2019 we get from our base desires (the Deviant\/Satan), in that generosity \u201cwould bring us to poverty,\u201d or that we should indeed feel free to \u201cbreach the limits imposed upon us (by our higher conscience).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">When we compare both translators\u2019 rendering of \u2018FaH-shaa\u2019(\u0641\u062d\u0634\u0627\u0621), we find that\u00a0Y. Ali calls it \u2018unseemly conduct, while M. Asad says it is \u2018to be niggardly\u2019 or miserly.\u00a0I disagree, thanks to the Tanzil search-engine which shows us <a href=\"http:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/root\/%D9%81%D8%AD%D8%B4\">that FaH-shaa is ALWAYS about illicit sex<\/a>. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In Arabic,&nbsp;(\u0641\u062d\u0634) \u2019faHasha\u2019&nbsp;denotes the spread of something outside its boundaries, something pervasive, and is only about something&nbsp;corrupt and repulsive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Our Lexicon<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> did add that some people have said that a miser is a \u2018faaHish\u2019 because miserliness is a person\u2019s most repulsive trait (but the lexicon considers that a \u2018broadened\u2019 concept and I think it does not apply).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> \u0641\u062d\u0634: \u0643\u0644\u0645\u0629\u064c \u062a\u062f\u0644\u064f\u0651 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0642\u064f\u0628\u062d\u064d \u0641\u064a \u0634\u064a\u0621 \u0648\u0634\u064e\u0646\u0627\u0639\u0629. \u0645\u0646 \u0630\u0644\u0643 \u0627\u0644\u0641\u062d\u0652\u0634 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0641\u064e\u062d\u0652\u0634\u0627\u0621 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0641\u0627\u062d\u0634\u0629. \u064a\u0642\u0648\u0644\u0648\u0646: \u0643\u0644\u064f\u0651 \u0634\u064a\u0621 \u062c\u0627\u0648\u064e\u0632\u064e \u0642\u064e\u062f\u0631\u064e\u0647 \u0641\u0647\u0648 \u0641\u0627\u062d\u0634\u061b \u0648\u0644\u0627 \u064a\u0643\u0648\u0646 \u0630\u0644\u0643 \u0625\u0644\u0627\u0651 \u0641\u064a\u0645\u0627 \u064a\u064f\u062a\u064e\u0643\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0651\u0647. \u0648\u064a\u0642\u0648\u0644\u0648\u0646: \u0627\u0644\u0641\u0627\u062d\u0634: \u0627\u0644\u0628\u062e\u064a\u0644\u060c \u0648\u0647\u0630\u0627 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0627\u062a\u0650\u0651\u0633\u0627\u0639\u060c \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0628\u062e\u0644\u064f \u0623\u0642\u0628\u062d\u064f \u062e\u0650\u0635\u0627\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0645\u0631\u0621.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 269 tells us the value of Wisdom; not a single word can we add to Yusuf Ali\u2019s note 318!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verses 270- 271, 273- 274 provide guidance on spending.&nbsp; In comparison to the spender for public recognition, Verse 271 speaks of our genuine, heartfelt gifts \u2018sadaqaat\u2019 (plural of \u2018Sadaqah\u0635\u062f\u0642\u0629\/\u2019 from the root-verb \u2018Sadaqa\u0635\u064e\u062f\u064e\u0642\u064e\/\u2019 which is about being true\/genuine, from which we get the word \u2018Sadeeq\/true friend\u2019).&nbsp; We should try to give those genuinely heartfelt gifts to the poor <em>privately,&nbsp;<\/em>although allowing it to be known would also be good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The Qur\u2019an speaks of such gifts as \u2018Sadaqah\/Sadaqaat,\u2019 while Zakaat\/\u0632\u0643\u0627\u0629 in the Qur\u2019an is a much broader concept of purification that encompasses not just everything we give, but everything we do and everything we feel -now and in FUTURE GROWTH IN PURITY. In Q.2:151 we were told that one of the reasons why the Messenger \ufdfa was sent was to \u2018yuzakkeekum\/purify you all (and help you grow in purity).\u2019&nbsp; The nouns \u2018Communion\/Salaat\u2019 and \u2018Growth in Purification \/Zakaat\u2019 go hand in hand in the Qur\u2019an no less than 26 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Scholars have traditionally considered&nbsp; \u2018Sadaqa\u2019 to refer to what we give as gifts, <em>after<\/em> we have already given the poor of our wealth&nbsp;<em>what is rightfully theirs (Zakaat)<\/em>.&nbsp;&nbsp;The dues\/Zakaat are a RIGHT the poor have upon the wealthy.&nbsp;&nbsp;Although we should not humiliate the poor by publicizing WHO gets the Zakat, it is believed to be a good idea to make it publicly known that the wealthy DO indeed pay their dues as good citizens.&nbsp;&nbsp;That would encourage other wealthy people to pay their dues, and deflect the resentment or humiliation poor people might feel.)&nbsp;&nbsp;See Y. Ali\u2019s notes 319-322.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">IMPORTANT NOTE:&nbsp; God\u2019s \u2018covering\u2019 of our misdeeds against others\/\u062a\u0643\u0641\u064a\u0631 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u064a\u0626\u0627\u062a is not as simple and straightforward as His forgiveness of our misdeeds against ourselves \u063a\u0641\u0631\u0627\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0630\u0646\u0648\u0628. The latter is just between us and Him, without any third-party in the same account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The former however, requires the people whom we have wronged to forgive us now, before we arrive together with them at the time of Account.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">But this verse shows us how God \u2018covers\/\u062a\u0643\u0641\u064a\u0631\u2019 for us; <em>He will cover what we owe to those we have wronged.<\/em> It is He who holds both our account and theirs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Our generosity with the less fortunate in life will make us eligible for His \u2018covering\u2019 for us on the Day of Account. AlHamdulil-Lah!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">6. Verse 272 tells the Messenger, peace upon him, that he is NOT required to make sure people are guided (see HQ 28:56); well-explained by Muhammad Asad in note 260.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Let us take notice of the beautiful ending to Verse 274, about those who shall have their reward with their Lord, and \u2018\u2026on them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve\/\u0644\u0627 \u062e\u0648\u0641 \u0639\u0644\u064a\u0647\u0645 \u0648\u0644\u0627 \u0647\u0645 \u064a\u062d\u0632\u0646\u0648\u0646\u2019.&nbsp; This reassurance is mentioned 12 times in the Qur\u2019an.
