{"id":292,"date":"2021-01-10T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-10T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=292"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:31","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:31","slug":"welcome-friends-day-34-hq-3133-148-pages-6768","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-34-hq-3133-148-pages-6768\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 3:133-148; pages 67+68"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We must bear in mind that many of these verses continue to relate to the Battle of Uhud, which we spoke of in our last reading.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">I advise everyone -once in a lifetime- to read the beautiful book of the Prophet\u2019s Life\/Seerah, peace upon him, \u2018<em>Muhammad: his life based on the earliest sources\u2019 <\/em>by Martin Lings<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">It is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icorlando.org\/pdfs\/muhammad_martin_Lings.pdf\">in PDF here<\/a>.&nbsp; For a detailed account of this battle, open the PDF and put \u2018Uhud\u2019 in \u2018Search.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>Our Reading begins with highly motivational words, similar to what we might feel today if someone urges us on saying: \u201cGo-GO-<strong>GO<\/strong>!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Continuing to address Those who Attained Faith)&nbsp;(having begun in HQ3:130), the Qur\u2019an says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cAND HASTEN\/advance towards forgiveness from your Lord and a garden, the vastness thereof is (as) The Exalted Expanses and the Earth, prepared for the Aware!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">This calls upon us to&nbsp;\u2018hurry,\u2019 to \u2018rush forward,\u2019 advancing together, towards all good deeds, as if there is no tomorrow!&nbsp; (We read something similar a few days earlier, in HQ3:115, describing some amongst People of the (earlier) Compilation who were doing just that.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The Arabic word \u2018saari\u2019oo&nbsp;(\u0633\u0627\u0631\u0639\u0648\u0627)&nbsp;calls upon Those Who Have Attained Faith in the third command given them here.&nbsp;&nbsp;This concept of advancing quickly&nbsp;as a group, also appears as a race in the words \u2018saabiqoo\u2019&nbsp;(\u0633\u0627\u0628\u0642\u0648\u0627), to \u2018race each other\u2019 forward (HQ57:21).&nbsp;&nbsp;The result of such a race is \u2018outrunning\u2019 everyone else, making headway till we arrive at our prized destination, explained in the beautiful verses of HQ23:61 (which, God-willing, we\u2019ll be doing together later).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Some commentators have explained this verse as, \u201cand a garden the&nbsp;display&nbsp;thereof is (as) the Heavens and the Earth, taking (\u2018ard)-&nbsp;(\u0639\u0631\u0636)&nbsp;to mean \u2018display,\u2019 as in (2:31).&nbsp;&nbsp;Yusuf Ali says \u2018\u2026a garden whose width\u2026\u2019 Muhammad Asad says \u201c\u2026and to a paradise as vast..\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;After telling us that Paradise is readied for \u2018the Aware\u2019 (Y. Ali:&nbsp;<em>the<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Righteous<\/em>\/M. Asad:&nbsp;<em>the God-Conscious<\/em>) the next three verses 3:134-136 provide their characteristics and confirm their \u2018status\u2019:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In their unfailing generosity, those who spend in both times of distress and ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In their restraint of anger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In their forgiveness of others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In their promptness to self-reproach, self-correct, and seek forgiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The bounteous reward they are granted is for having been \u2018those who work (and strive)\u2019 (Yusuf Ali); \u2018those who labor\u2019 (Muhammad Asad).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">When we read the&nbsp; characteristics of the we realize that it is indeed laborious to keep up that level of self-control and awareness.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were indeed \u2018Strivers\u2019 in life, but after arriving at their destination (once they are done striving) perhaps we should call them: \u2018Achievers.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The ending of Verse 134 states that God loves the MuHsineen\u2026Those Who (having performed IHssaan- the best of deeds beyond the call of duty) have earned the title \u2018MuHsineen.\u2019&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>It is only those who have earned favorable titles that God loves. In our post today we see that God loves THE MuHsineen in two verses, and we also see in Verse 146 that He loves the Ssaabireen, THE patiently Persevering.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Compare Verse 134 about the MuHsineen with HQ 53:31 where we are told that God <em>rewards<\/em> Those Who Perform Goodness\/ Ihssaan\/Allatheena AHssanu\u2019 with ultimate Good\/Hussnaa.<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp; They are in the active \u2018verb\u2019 stage, some of them yet to deviate perhaps, while others have yet to earn the title.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Note in Verse 135 that one of the characteristics of those who are quick to seek forgiveness is that they do not persist in any particular (negative) deed (\u0641\u0639\u0644). We feel relief here: What if we are the ones this verse speaks of, and it is we who are promised the Gardens?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We must stop here for a moment to elaborate on the difference between two words which we translate as deeds: \u0639\u0645\u0644&#8230;&#8230;. \u0641\u0639\u0644<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In Verse 136 we encounter the word \u20183amileen\/\u0639\u0627\u0645\u0650\u0644\u064a\u0646\u2019 from the root verb \u20183-m-l\u2019 which relates to work and labor. The word \u2018amal\/ \u0639\u0645\u0644 is mentioned 360 times in The Qur\u2019an, and \u20183amal\/\u0639\u0645\u0644\u2019 is never attributed to God as He does not work\/labor!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Also, one\u2019s \u20183amal\u2019 is general works\/labors\/deeds, while one\u2019s \u2018fi3l\u2019 is each particular deed which -when all are added up-constitute the \u20183amal.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Hence, let\u2019s say, my \u20183amal\u2019 is that I teach, but (one of) my \u2018fi3l\u2019 is that I am seated at my laptop, typing. Another is that I am looking at the keyboard, and another is that I\u2019m straightening my back etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">You will come across these words often, and will come to realize the Qur\u2019an\u2019s inimitable precision as well as God\u2019s generosity in how he judges and forgives us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 137:&nbsp;<strong>\u201cMany were the ways of life that have passed away before you: travel the earth and see what was the end of those who rejected Truth<\/strong>\u201d (Y. Ali).&nbsp;&nbsp;We are often told to travel the earth in observation, and especially to see the consequence of rejecting Truth; \u2018kath-thaba\u2019 means to belie, or contradict a truth (HQ6:11; 16:36).&nbsp;&nbsp;Read M. Asad\u2019s note 98 explaining \u2018sunna\u2019- way of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verse 138 states emphatically that THIS IS\u2026(meaning the Qur\u2019an) a clear lesson unto Mankind, and an admonition to the Aware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">I prefer Asad\u2019s translation.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is closer to the original to call the Aware \u2018God-conscious\u2019 than those \u2018who fear God.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;For the sake of accuracy however, we should note that both have added the word \u2018God\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> where the word in Arabic does not exist in this particular verse (138). There are other verses which DO say \u2018conscious of God\u2019 as in&nbsp;(\u062a\u0642\u0648\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647)&nbsp;so we should differentiate to show the distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;I prefer Yusuf Ali\u2019s translation of Verse 139.&nbsp;M. Asad simply says \u2018you are bound to rise high,\u2019 while the Qur\u2019an say \u2018the Highest.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">What a promise given by God, what a goal to live up to: Being&nbsp;<em>uppermost<\/em>, prevailing over all obstacles and whatever might seek to put one down\u2026 but there is a catch: IF:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cSo lose not heart nor fall into despair:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For you must gain mastery IF you are indeed true in Faith.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 140-143 are a balm, a solace to Those Who Attained Faith and happen to be in distress.&nbsp;&nbsp;All humans taste pain and affliction, and it is in the nature of earthly existence that fortune changes hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Life is but a test so that God may&nbsp;<strong>mark out<\/strong>, or set apart, those who have faith and trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">M. Asad\u2019s interpretation of the verb \u2018allama\u2019 as \u2018mark out\u2019 is accurate (see&nbsp;\u0639\u0644\u0645).<a href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Many people have fretted over interpreting \u2018liya\u2019lama\u2019 as \u2018so that God would know,\u2019 which of course is not correct since God\u2019s Knowledge encompasses all.\u00a0\u00a0Many do not realize that by definition, the meaning of the word (\u2019allama) was originally related to making a \u2018mark.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0(Teachers in Arabic-speaking schools give the students their marks (grades) called \u2018alaamah (s), \u2018alaamaat (pl)\u0639\u0644\u0627\u0645\u0629-\u0639\u0644\u0627\u0645\u0627\u062a\u00a0.)\u00a0\u00a0The word \u201cya\u2019lam\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u064a\u0639\u0644\u0645\u00a0has come to mean \u2018to know\u2019 because when we know something it becomes \u2018impressed\/imprinted upon us\u2019 and distinctive to us.\u00a0\u00a0Realizing this is very important in our understanding of many verses in the Qur\u2019an, prominent among them is Suratul Alaq\/Chapter 96.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">For historical background of this verse, read Asad\u2019s note 103.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 144 relates to the rumor that spread over the Uhud battle-ground that Prophet Muhammad, peace upon him, had been killed.&nbsp;His companions are told that, even if that had been true, Muhammad is no&nbsp;more than a Messenger preceded by the Messengers before him (&nbsp;(\u062e\u0644\u062a \u0645\u0646 \u0642\u0628\u0644\u0647 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0633\u0644, and that they should not retreat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verse 145 is a statement regarding Death and Recompense.&nbsp;&nbsp;In accurate linguistic translation it begins as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cIt is not for any \u2018Self\u2019 (nafs) to die except by God\u2019s leave, a compilation (kitaab) in due course\u2026\u2026..\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The word \u2018Kitaab,\u2019 as we know, means a \u2018compilation.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;The word \u2018ajal\u2019 means \u2018term,\u2019 and its derivation \u2018mu\u2019ajjal\u2019 means \u2018in due course, eventually.\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In this instance, the fact that Death is called a \u2018kitaab mu\u2019ajjal\u2019 indicates a compiled set of circumstances that must come together -in due course- for Death to take place.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Yusuf&nbsp;Ali\u2019s \u2018term as if fixed by writing\u2019 and Asad\u2019s \u2018term pre-ordained\u2019 may be common interpretations, but understanding the verses in their original Arabic is so much more true to Qur\u2019anic intent!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The rest of the verse discusses recompense; we get the return for our deeds wherever we desire it, and God rewards the \u2018shaakireen.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">M. Asad translates it as \u2018grateful,\u2019 Y. Ali says \u2018those that serve us with gratitude..\u2019&nbsp;Linguistically however, it is: those who are PRODUCTIVE\u2026 from Blog Post Day 12 \u201cthose who make full use of His favors by working with, and multiplying, them. \u2018<em>Shukr\u2019 means accepting what is little and making the most of it until it achieves abundance<\/em>\u201d (see full definition).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 146-148 report to the Prophet and his companions the trials and tribulations of previous Prophets and Devotees of God, peace upon them all, to strengthen their resolve, and then relays to them their beautiful prayer in the time of utmost danger and need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">So God gave them all they had asked for, with a reward in the Present lowly Life and the best of rewards in the Hereafter, for God loves the MuHsineen<a href=\"#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a>\u2026Those Who (having constantly performed IHssaan; the best of deeds beyond the call of duty) earned the title \u2018MuHsineen.\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">May we be so fortunate as to be counted among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Ameen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">There were quite a few lessons for us today, and beautiful prayers to memorize:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u0631\u064e\u0628\u064e\u0651\u0646\u064e\u0627 \u0627\u063a\u0652\u0641\u0650\u0631\u0652 \u0644\u064e\u0646\u064e\u0627 \u0630\u064f\u0646\u064f\u0648\u0628\u064e\u0646\u064e\u0627 \u0648\u064e\u0625\u0650\u0633\u0652\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0641\u064e\u0646\u064e\u0627 \u0641\u0650\u064a fee amrina, wa thabbit aqdaamana wa onsurna 3ala al Qawmi al Kaafireen.\u201d<\/em><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Nothing is as beautiful -or as powerful- as God giving us a prayer to say\u2026 in His own words!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>E<\/strong>nough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 3:149-157.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Peace unto all<\/strong><strong>!<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> English for Yusuf Ali\u2019s \u2018God,\u2019 and sometimes even inserted \u2018Allah\u2019 for his rendition of \u2018Rabb\u2019 as \u2018Lord,\u2019 which confused things.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> \u0639\u0644\u0645: \u064a\u062f\u0644\u064f\u0651 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0623\u062b\u064e\u0631\u064d
