The statement \u2018God Loves The MuHsineen <a href=\"http:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D9%8A%D8%AD%D8%A8%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%AD%D8%B3%D9%86%D9%8A%D9%86\">appears five times in the Qur\u2019an<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The account relating to the Battle of Uhud continues today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In verses 149-151, just as Those Who Attained Faith were previously warned against obeying the People of the (earlier) Compilation (HQ3:100), here they are warned against obeying the Deniers, and the verses are clear in that, if they did, they would in fact be transformed into Losers.&nbsp;&nbsp;HOWEVER (<em>bal\/ <\/em><em>\u0628\u0644 <\/em><em>&#8211; <\/em>meaning: \u201cbut rather\u201d) God is your Protector\/Guardian, and He is The Best of Supporters\/Bestowers of NaSr\/Benevolent Prominence -as opposed to \u2018Prominence\u2019 on its own, which most often is malevolent.<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The Qur\u2019an clearly warns the Deniers that their denial of God and their their \u2018shirking\u2019 of Him (by associating other deities with Him) is what causes fear and alarm to be cast into their hearts\/minds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In Verses 152-154 the Qur\u2019an recounts how God fulfilled His promise to Those Who Attained Faith (that they would gain the upper hand), right up to the point when 40 out of 50 archers changed the course of battle by failing their comrades, disputing about the matter, and violating their command.&nbsp;&nbsp;Then the verses quite picturesquely describe the battle-ground as well as the deepest sentiments of those soldiers who had made an error in judgment; an error with monumental repercussions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The regret they felt was but an outcome they had brought on themselves: Their brothers who were killed defending their posts were yearning for the Hereafter whereas they (now shamefully defeated) had yearned after the spoils of war \u2026 but not anymore.&nbsp;&nbsp;Having fully appraised what they had done, they had begun to seriously suffer the psychological and physical results. But then, Verse 152 ends on a note of Forgiveness!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We have often heard of the dangers of stress, but perhaps we do not realize its seriousness.&nbsp;&nbsp;In his book \u2018Ageless Body, Timeless Mind,\u2019 Dr. Deepak Chopra explains that, although humans can withstand extraordinary stress \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026\u201d if we are pushed too far, our stress response turns on our own bodies and begins to create breakdowns both mentally and physically.&nbsp;In&nbsp;war, which is a state of extremely heightened, continual stress, every frontline soldier will eventually go into shell shock or battle fatigue if kept under fire too long; both syndromes are signs from the body that it is exceeding its own coping mechanisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Whenever you experience a stress, there are three phases to your response: (I) the stressful event; (2) your inner appraisal of it; (3) your body\u2019s reaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What makes the stress response so difficult to handle is that once it begins, the mind has no control over it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the time, your cells are occupied with renewal- roughly 90 percent of a cell\u2019s energy normally goes to building new proteins and manufacturing new DNA and RNA.&nbsp;&nbsp;When the brain perceives threat, however, the process of building is set aside.&nbsp;&nbsp;Whatever you decide to do in fight-or-flight situations, your body needs a massive burst of energy to propel your muscles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To allow this, the normal style of metabolism that builds the body, called anabolic metabolism, converts to its opposite, catabolic metabolism, which breaks down tissues.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u2026As a temporary expedient, the stress response is vital, but if it is not terminated in time, the effects of catabolic metabolism are disastrous.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Perhaps we now understand why God, in His Mercy, let descend&nbsp;<em>upon the best of them <\/em>the soothing mantle of slumber&nbsp;(\u0623\u0645\u064e\u0646\u0629 \u0646\u0639\u0627\u0633\u0627\u064b), to be their refuge&nbsp;from insurmountable guilt and sorrow.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their well-being depended on it- so he brought it down upon them.<a href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;Sleep is indeed a wonderful refuge for the weary and the worried!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">As for those who had doubted God, they had no slumber induced upon them.&nbsp;&nbsp;They naturally remained alert, wondering why they had put themselves in the path of danger to start with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This should also help us understand better the Verse of Dominion\/Knowledge \u2018Ayatul Kursi\u2019 with its statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>God, there is no deity save Him, The Ever-Living, Self-Subsistent Fount of All Being, <em>neither slumber overtakes Him nor sleep<\/em>\u2026\u201d&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>He IS as He Is, The Fount of all Being- and that is all we need to know!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The beauty of these verses (as many others in the Qur\u2019an) is that they publicize the inner feelings and thoughts of someone who would much rather have had them remain private.&nbsp;<em>Just think of finding the Qur\u2019an expose our thoughts like that!<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;People sometimes say, \u201cI wish I\u2019d lived during the Prophet\u2019s time \u2026\u201d without realizing what responsibility that entails, or whether or not they would have been among his best supporters, peace upon him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We are extremely blessed to be where we are right now, despite our ordeals.&nbsp; Aren\u2019t we healthy enough, comfortable enough, educated enough, technologically advanced enough, to be reading this explanation of God\u2019s words at our leisure?&nbsp; Aren\u2019t we blessed beyond measure to be enriched and motivated by God\u2019s very Words drawing us closer to Him, and then pulling us together to others with whom we can&nbsp;share this experience?&nbsp; How many people on this earth do you think can say that?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 155 tells the Prophet\u2019s Companions that indeed, it was the Deviant (Shaytan) who caused them to stumble that particular day because of something&nbsp;<em>they had earned before that, on their own<\/em>, and reassures them that God has erased their misdeed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">M. Asad\u2019s note 117 summarizes the Qur\u2019anic doctrine of \u2018Satan\u2019s influence,\u2019 that Satan influence is NOT the cause of a person\u2019s misdeed, but rather is the first <em>consequence<\/em> after one had earned the guilt oneself by having committed or omitted something.<a href=\"#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp; Each of us freely chooses his\/her&nbsp;course of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">God-willing, we\u2019ll by trying to discuss the many Arabic words which are commonly translated as \u2018sin\u2019 in English (ithm \u2013 sayi\u2019a \u2013 Thanb \u2013 khaTa\u2019-khaTee\u2019a \u2013 ma\u0639\u2019Siya\/\u0625\u062b\u0645 -\u0633\u064a\u0626\u0629 -\u0630\u0646\u0628 -\u062e\u0637\u0623-\u062e\u0637\u064a\u0626\u0629 -\u0645\u0639\u0635\u064a\u0629) as well as the different words commonly translated as \u2018forgiveness.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;(\u0639\u2019afu-maghfirah-takfeer-tajaawuz\/\u0639\u0641\u0648-\u0645\u063a\u0641\u0631\u0629 -\u062a\u0643\u0641\u064a\u0631 -\u062a\u062c\u0627\u0648\u0632). &nbsp;Arabic is a such a RICH language, and it is amazing how different these words actually are!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">7.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In Verses 156-157, Those Who Attained Faith are told not to be similar to the Deniers when they need to journey or face a battle situation which puts them in danger.&nbsp; If anyone died in so doing, it would be in God\u2019s Way, so they shouldn\u2019t respond as the Deniers do, and should not say the words \u2018If only they had stayed, they wouldn\u2019t have died or been killed,\u2019&nbsp;for God will cause that to be a source of bitter regret in their hearts.&nbsp; It is God Who gives Life and Death.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In his note Yusuf Ali\u2019s says: <em>\u201cIt is want of faith that makes people afraid (1) of meeting death, (2) of doing their duty when it involves danger, as in travelling in order to earn an honest living, or fighting in a sacred cause. Such fear is part of the punishment for want of faith.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Al Zamakhshari<a href=\"#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> has an alternative take on the statement about the bitter regret in the hearts of the Deniers, that&nbsp;this could be related to their deepest acknowledgement of how different -how superior- the Faithful are to them, which causes them great distress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 3:158-173.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> We spoke about NaSr on Day 17, that it is about prominence which delivers goodness and generosity, and is&nbsp; the name for rain that quenches the earth, fills it with goodness, and is generous to all. Now we have a proper term for it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> Excerpted from pages 150-153: Chapter: \u2018The Invisible Threat.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> Sleep renewal, or anabolism, is at its maximum during sleep when protein synthesis helps form new cells (such as skin cells) and replaces the constituents of others (such as brain cells).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> \u201c<em>Satan\u2019s influence\u201d on man is not the primary cause of sin but its first consequence: that is to say, a consequence of a person\u2019s own attitude of mind which in moments of moral crisis induces him to choose the easier, and seemingly more pleasant, of the alternatives open to him, and thus to become guilty of a sin, whether by commission or omission.
