{"id":305,"date":"2021-01-17T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-17T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=305"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:31","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:31","slug":"welcome-friends-day-36-hq-3158-173-pages-7172","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-36-hq-3158-173-pages-7172\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 3:158-173; pages 71+72"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We continue on the subject of the Battle of Uhud.&nbsp; Read about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Our Reading starts with a statement regarding death, and then a beautiful description of the Prophet\u2019s leniency, peace upon him, and his relationship with his companions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;\u201cIt is by the Mercy of God that you were lenient&nbsp;(<\/strong><strong>\u0644\u0650\u0646\u062a\u064e<\/strong><strong>)&nbsp;with them, for had you been stern and harsh-hearted (literally: thick-headed\/obstinate)<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup><strong><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a> <\/strong><strong>\u063a\u0644\u064a\u0638 \u0627\u0644\u0642\u0644\u0628<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;they would have broken away from you, so pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter<em>, then when you have made your decision, put your trust in God for God loves those who put their trust in him.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup><strong><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The Qur\u2019an tells us of Prophet Muhammad\u2019s character, peace upon him, and of how he dealt with his followers; that he was lenient with them, and accepted their counsel, and that they would not have followed him had he been otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">It seems apparent however, that they were indeed worthy of counsel, which is why God tells him to consult with them.&nbsp;&nbsp;And since None can support us except God, it is Him that the Faithful should trust, and upon Him they should depend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">As to the Prophet\u2019s leniency, Yusuf Ali\u2019s note 471 reminds us beautifully of the verse which says (HQ21:107):&nbsp;<em>\u201cWe have sent you but as a mercy to the Worlds (Peoples) \u2018alameen\u2019.&nbsp;<\/em>Muhammad Asad\u2019s note 121 tells us that the Prophet did not even reproach those who had deserted their posts at Uhud!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Interestingly, the word \u2018lenient\u2019 and the Arabic \u2018linta\u2019 are alike in meaning and very similar phonetically; the English term derived from Latin:&nbsp;<em>leniens<\/em>&#8211; first appeared in the early 1600\u2019s related to Medicine.<a href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;As usual, Etymology ignores its Arabic origins despite the fact that the word entered the language <em>through medicine<\/em>&nbsp;at a time when the most esteemed Medical books being taught at universities were written by Arab\/Muslim physicians such as&nbsp;Abul Qasim al-Zahrawi (11<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;C.) whom Europeans named \u2018Albucacis,\u2019&nbsp;and the&nbsp;Andalusian physician Ibn al-Khatib of 14<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;C. Granada.<a href=\"#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 161-163 tell us that no prophet \u201ccould be false to his trust\/it is inconceivable that a prophet would deceive\u201d (Ali\/Asad).&nbsp;Muhammad Asad relates the deception to false pretenses; no prophet would say he was receiving revelation from God when he wasn\u2019t.&nbsp;Yusuf Ali speaks of \u2018unworthy motives\u2019 in his note 472.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 164 stands alone, a testimony to the Great Favor God had bestowed on the Faithful by raising amongst them a Messenger.&nbsp;&nbsp;His Message would bring them much benefit, and they would grow in Purity&nbsp;(\u064a\u0632\u0643\u064a\u0647\u0645 \u201cyuzakkeehim\u201d from the root verb \u2018zaka\u2019).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Much can be said about this verse which not only shows God\u2019s great Favor upon the Faithful of that time, but speaks to us, showing us His great Favor upon us today; it gives us incentive to be deserving of His favor and to strive for that title, <em>no matter how far behind we see ourselves on the Path to Him:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Weren\u2019t the Prophet\u2019s Companions -the original holders of the title \u2018Al Mu\u2019minoon\u2019- once in manifest error \u2018fee Dhalaal mubeen\u0641\u064a \u0636\u0644\u0627\u0644\u064d \u0645\u0628\u064a\u0646-?\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Faith alone does not bring about victory; (see Asad\u2019s note 127).&nbsp;&nbsp;There are other considerations such as obeying command!&nbsp; Other preparations are power and arms, as mentioned in HQ8:60:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201cHence, make ready against them whatever force and war mounts you are able to muster, so that you might deter thereby the enemies of God, who are your enemies as well, and others besides them of whom you may be unaware, [but] of whom God is aware; and whatever you may expend in God\u2019s cause shall be repaid to you in full, and you shall not be wronged. (60) But if they incline to peace, incline thou to it as well, and place thy trust in God: verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! (61)\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 167-168 mention the 300 \u2018fighters,\u2019 the Hypocrites, who had deserted the battle before it had even begun (see Asad\u2019s note 129).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-list\"><li>The next beautiful verses are among the most quoted when one is referring to <a>Those Who are&nbsp;Killed in God\u2019s Way,<\/a> those who are not dead, but indeed alive, being sustained in the presence of their Lord.&nbsp; Those Who rejoice in the bounty provided by God, and rejoice in the glad tidings of those yet to follow them, that upon them shall be no fear nor shall they grieve.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Now perhaps is the best time to speak of the Arabic term \u2018Shaheed\u2019 which has been commonly understood to be reserved as an exclusive honorific title for Those Who are Killed In God\u2019s Way.&nbsp; It is not so at all.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In our study so far, we have already come across the root-verb \u2018shahada\u2019 and&nbsp; its derivations 19 times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u2018Shahada\/shahida\/<\/em><em>\u0634\u064e\u0647\u064e\u062f<\/em><em>\u2019 is the Arabic word for \u2018to witness.\u2019<\/em>&nbsp; If you studied the Arabic you\u2019d find out that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-list\"><li>We are Shuhadaa\/witnesses that God is our Lord-Sustainer.&nbsp; We say the Shahaadah all the time. Each of us is&nbsp; a \u2018shaheed.\u2019<\/li><li>The imperative verb \u2018istash-hid,\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> calls for a witness to be summoned. We\u2019ve already covered the (longest) Qur\u2019anic verse relating to loans, which includes this statement:<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u201c\u2026 and \u2018call to witness\/istash-hid\u2019 two \u2018witnesses\/shaheed\u2019 of your men, then if they weren\u2019t men then one man and two women whom you accept as \u2018witnesses\/ shuhadaa\u2019\u2026..\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">T<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The Qur\u2019an being precise, honors Those Who are Killed in God\u2019s Way by bestowing on them the honorific title they\u2019ve earned by their final act:<strong> \u0627\u0644\u064e\u0651\u0630\u0650\u064a\u0646\u064e \u0642\u064f\u062a\u0650\u0644\u064f\u0648\u0627 \u0641\u0650\u064a \u0633\u064e\u0628\u0650\u064a\u0644\u0650 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u064e\u0651\u0640\u0647\u0650 \/ \u2018Those Who were Killed in God\u2019s Way\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">That is their title, exclusive to them alone, not just to ascertain -but also to specify- what exactly they were killed for (as in 2:154; 47:4).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">They were not specifically given the title Shuhadaa, which is shared by so many of us.\u00a0\u00a0We now honor them even more greatly. As God is their Witness, they have earned the honorific title of being \u2018Those Who were Killed in His Way.\u2019 THAT is their amazing unrivalled distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">As for us, we are Shuhadaa inshaAllah, each of us a Shaheed. This knowledge will reflect very heartwarmingly for us on so many verses:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Shahaadah is about life, being LIVE witnesses.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">This also makes us honor, even more greatly, those who had earned, as God is their Witness, the honorific title of being Those Who were Killed in God\u2019s Way.&nbsp; THAT is their amazing unrivalled distinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Was it surprising to learn that \u2018shaheed\u2019 means <a>\u2018witness\u2019 in Arabic, and that common usage changed the concept from its original Qur\u2019anic and Arabic definition? <\/a>If not, then perhaps it would surprise you to learn that etymologically,<a href=\"#_ftn6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a> the word \u2018martyr\u2019 also meant \u2018witness\u2019 before common usage changed the concept from its original!&nbsp; This topic alone -the evolution of the ecclesiastic term \u2018Martyr\/Shaheed\u2019- would be a useful research paper for peace-builders to uncover how\/when this change came about in both Christian and Muslim terminology (was it the Crusades 1095-1291?).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-list\"><li>Verses172-173 mention the suffering of those who were already afflicted after the battle of Uhud, yet answered the call to continue in readiness despite their injuries.&nbsp;&nbsp;Most commentators take this to refer to another expedition they had to go on despite their exhaustion.&nbsp;&nbsp;Despite them not being <a>victorious<\/a><a href=\"#_msocom_1\">[RH1]<\/a>&nbsp; at Uhud, there was good in it. Muhammad Asad explains in note 130, Ali in note 479:&nbsp; <em>\u2018strengthened by the accession of new adherents to their cause.\u2019<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tomorrow\u2019s Reading is from HQ 3:174-186.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> \/\u0642\u0644\u0648\u0628 <strong>\u0642\u0644\u0628<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Qalb\/quloob (pl.) (although commonly interpreted as \u2018heart\u2019) is indicated in the Qur\u2019an as being the site of active comprehension\/ \u064a\u0639\u0642\u0644\u0648\u0646, which we understand as being related to the mind, and have therefore been calling it the Heart\/Mind:&nbsp; The heart being related to the mind is very clear in verse, HQ7:179, which says \u2018\u2026<em>those who have <u>quloob<\/u> by which they comprehend not, and have eyes by which they see not, and have ears by which they hear not, such are alike to cattle or even further astray, such are the heedless.\u2019 <\/em>The action of \u2018aql\u2019 is related to knowledge (HQ 2:75; 29:43).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We knew that, however, we couldn\u2019t understand the compound concept of \u2018Heart\/Mind\u2019 scientifically.&nbsp; UNTIL NOW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">What we have recently learnt from a paper <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31728781\/#:~:text=Recent%20findings%3A%20Dr.,has%20its%20own%20nervous%20system.\">published by the National Library of Medicine<\/a> helps us not only understand, but also conclude that our interpretation was indeed correct inshaAllah: <em>Qalb is the Heart\/Mind!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDr. Armour, in 1991, discovered that the heart has its &#8220;little brain&#8221; or &#8220;intrinsic cardiac nervous system.&#8221; This &#8220;heart brain&#8221; is composed of approximately 40,000 neurons that are alike neurons in the brain, meaning that the heart has its own nervous system. In addition, the heart communicates with the brain in many methods: neurologically, biochemically, biophysically, and energetically. The vagus nerve, which is 80% afferent, carries information from the heart and other internal organs to the brain. Signals from the &#8220;heart brain&#8221; redirect to the medulla, hypothalamus, thalamus, and amygdala and the cerebral cortex. Thus, the heart sends more signals to the brain than vice versa.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> IMPORTANT NOTE about the Qur\u2019anic statement <strong>\u0641\u064e\u0625\u0650\u0630\u064e\u0627 \u0639\u064e\u0632\u064e\u0645\u0652\u062a\u064e \u0641\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0648\u064e\u0643\u064e\u0651\u0644\u0652 \u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0649 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u064e\u0651\u0640\u0647\u0650 \u06da \u0625\u0650\u0646\u064e\u0651 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u064e\u0651\u0640\u0647\u064e \u064a\u064f\u062d\u0650\u0628\u064f\u0651 \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0645\u064f\u062a\u064e\u0648\u064e\u0643\u0650\u0651\u0644\u0650\u064a\u0646\u064e\u2026..<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">From experience, we found this to be the best statement to make when we want to do something, seeking God\u2019s help at the same time, so many who have done the Blog a while ago are practicing it. It\u2019s quite helpful!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/melrobbins.com\/five-elements-5-second-rule\/\">Have you heard of Mel Robbins\u2019 5 Second Rule?<\/a> We know something similar from many Arabic sayings. Listen to what she says, because it is true:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is simple. If you have an instinct to act on a goal, <em>you must physically move within 5 seconds or your brain will kill it.<\/em> The moment you feel an instinct or a desire to act on a goal or a commitment, use the Rule. When you feel yourself hesitate before doing something that you know you should do, count 5-4-3-2-1-GO and move towards action. There is a window that exists between the moment you have an instinct to change and your mind killing it. It\u2019s a 5 second window. And it exists for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">So, here we have it: If you feel the urge to do a good deed or take on a commitment, act upon it as you recite this Qur\u2019anic statement and inshaAllah you\u2019d be on your way before the end of your sentence!&nbsp; If you want to say it in English, that\u2019s fine too.
