{"id":309,"date":"2021-01-17T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-01-17T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=309"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:31","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:31","slug":"welcome-friends-day-38-hq-3187-200-pages-7576","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-38-hq-3187-200-pages-7576\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 3:187-200, pages 75+76"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Chapter Three of the Qur\u2019an&nbsp;ends with today\u2019s Reading!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 187-188 tell us that those from the (earlier) Compilation who had turned their backs on the Message and \u2018sold\u2019 it off for cheap gain, were in fact doing so in breach of a covenant they had with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Their \u2018selling\u2019 or \u2018bartering\u2019 of God\u2019s signs for a \u2018trifling gain\u2019&nbsp;(\u062b\u0645\u0646\u0627\u064b \u0642\u0644\u064a\u0644\u0627\u064b)&nbsp;has been mentioned several times so far, each time from a different angle. (HQ2:41; 2:79; 2:174; 3:77; 3:187).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Ali\u2019s note 494 is interesting:&nbsp;<em>\u201cPrivileged priesthood at once erects a barrier\u2026But worse when such priesthood tampers with the truth.. it has sold God\u2019s gift for a miserable ephemeral profit<\/em>..\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Muhammad Asad, with his early indoctrination in Torah and Hebrew, does not mince words saying: \u201c<em>The implication of verse 187 above is that the advent of the Prophet Muhammad was predicted in both the Old and New Testaments\u2026..\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>and that they should have spread this prophecy NOT suppressed it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 189 is a statement of fact.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Omnipotence it describes serves to punctuate the previous verse, and is also an introduction to the wonder of creation in the following verse, 190.&nbsp;&nbsp;We are also reminded here of the descriptive verses of HQ2:164.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 190 is one of the 5 Qur\u2019anic verses that speak of God\u2019s Creation and its variation\/ \u0627\u062e\u062a\u0644\u0627\u0641 .. where we see the Qur\u2019an calling <a>attention to (God-given) Signs, such as the Creation of the Exalted Expanses, or the variation in Night and Day, or the different languages and races of people.&nbsp; In these are Signs for:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-list\"><li>(2:164) <a>People who apply their intellect (to secure knowledge); <\/a>\u0644\u0642\u0648\u0645 \u064a\u0639\u0642\u0644\u0648\u0646<\/li><li><strong>(3:190) <a>\u2018Ulul Albaab\u2019\/ Possessors of Presence, Dedication, Commitment, and Insight;<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li>(10:6)&nbsp; People who are Being Aware; \u0644\u0642\u0648\u0645\u064d \u064a\u062a\u064e\u0651\u0642\u0648\u0646<\/li><li>(30:22) The Knowledgeable\/The Well-informed \u0644\u0644\u0639\u0627\u0644\u0650\u0645\u064a\u0646 ;<a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/li><li>(45:5)&nbsp; People who apply their intellect (to secure knowledge). \u0644\u0642\u0648\u0645 \u064a\u0639\u0642\u0644\u0648\u0646<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verses 191-194 begin by describing \u2018Those of\/Possessors of Commitment and Insight; \u2018ulul albaab\u2019&nbsp;(\u0623\u0648\u0644\u0648\u0627 \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0628\u0627\u0628), a Qur\u2019anic title translated by Yusuf Ali as \u2018<em>men of understanding<\/em>,\u2019 and by Muhammad Asad as \u2018<em>who are endowed with insight<\/em>.\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp; The verse tells us how special they are, remembering God when they stand, and when they sit, and on their sides, and how they reflect upon the creation of the heavens and the earth.&nbsp; Then we hear their beautiful prayer, starting with the address:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;&#8220;\u2026\u2026\u2026\u2026 O our Sustainer! Thou hast not created [aught of] this without meaning and purpose. Limitless art Thou in Thy glory! Keep us safe, then, from suffering through fire!\u201d (191)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Ending in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;&#8220;And, O our Sustainer, grant us that which Thou hast promised us through Thy apostles, and disgrace us not on Resurrection Day! Verily, Thou never failest to fulfil Thy promise!&#8221; (194)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We actually <em>hear their words as they speak to their Lord-Sustainer<\/em>, and we wish we could be among them! The prayer of \u2018Ulul Albaab\u2019 is indeed worth memorizing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;We then see, in Verse 195, how their Lord responds to their prayers, asserting that no labor would go unrewarded (literally no deed of any \u2018laborer\u2019), for all are equal -one of the other- be they male or female, HOWEVER for those of \u2018Ulul Albaab\u2019 who have tasted hardship (beautifully listed in the verse) there will be a special recompense: God says that He Himself will \u2018cover for them\u2019 their misdeeds&nbsp;(\u0633\u064a\u0626\u0627\u062a)&nbsp;and bring them into gardens through which running rivers flow\u2026 a recompense from God Himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; In&nbsp;Verses 196-198 the listener is told not to mistake any good fortune&nbsp;through which&nbsp;the Deniers may \u2018transform\u2019&nbsp;themselves as gifts from God&nbsp;(other verses such as 19:75 explain).&nbsp; We are then shown the \u2018finale\u2019 of two opposite groups, the Forthcoming\/Genuine \u2018Abraar,\u2019&nbsp;versus those who had&nbsp;Denied \u2018allatheena Kafaru,\u2019 narrating both their outcomes.&nbsp; (For definition of \u2018birr\u2019 see Blog Posts Day 14 and 31.)&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">What a difference indeed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 199 is a conclusion: This Chapter, the \u2018Family of Imran,\u2019 having had as one of its main themes the Prophets bearing (earlier) Compilation and the People who followed them (\u0623\u0647\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0643\u062a\u0627\u0628) and having commended or criticized those followers for their faith or their failings, now arrives at a conclusion:&nbsp;&nbsp;it&nbsp;wraps up its message on&nbsp;&nbsp;a note of praise and reward to those who had earlier accepted the tenets in 3:64.<a href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verse 199 is beautiful:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>And, behold, among the followers of earlier revelation there are indeed such as [truly] believe in God, and in that which has been bestowed from on high upon you as well as in that which has been bestowed upon them. Standing in awe of God, they do not barter away God\u2019s messages for a trifling gain. They shall have their reward with their Sustainer \u2013 for, behold, God is swift in reckoning! (199)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-list\"><li>The Final Verse in today\u2019s Reading is addressed to Those Who Attained Faith, with a recipe for \u2018FalaaH\u2019 (\u0641\u0644\u0627\u062d) prevalence\/success.<a href=\"#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">In Asad\u2019s words :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&nbsp;\u201cO you who have attained to faith! Be patient in adversity, and vie in perseverance<a href=\"#_ftn5\"><sup><strong><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a> with one another, and be ever ready [to do what is right], and remain Aware of God, so that you might succeed (in life)!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Y, Ali says: \u201cProsperity (<a>falah here <\/a>and in other passages is to be understood in a wide sense, including prosperity in our mundane affairs as well as in spiritual progress. In both cases it implies happiness and the attainment of our wishes, purified by the love of God.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our next Reading is HQ4:1-11, as we embark on our next Chapter translated by most as \u2018the Women.\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> It\u2019s quite enlightening to see what each verse mentions as a Sign, and for whom. For example, in 30;22, when the verse speaks of Creation and different languages and races, it says that these are Signs for the Knowledgeable\/The Well-informed.&nbsp; How true, since only someone well-informed would know enough about this to see in such variation a Sign of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> Both translations are correct but -as shown in Blogpost Day 16- offer a limited rendering of the word.&nbsp; We mentioned that the singular \u2018Lub\u2019 does means the core\/heart of something, which Arabs have used to mean \u2018mind,\u2019 as in \u2018labeeb\/ intelligent, or witty,\u2019&nbsp; and that the root verb \u2018labb\/labba\u2019 (pronounced lebbe) refers to being physically present as well as emotionally settled and attached.&nbsp; \u2018Ulu\u2019 means possessors, so \u2018Possessors of \u2018Lubb\/ \u0644\u0628&nbsp; would be special people who are present, dedicated, and committed.&nbsp; The \u2018talbiyah\u2019 of Pilgrimage (Hajj) comes from that root verb \u2018labba\u2019 and we say, \u2018Labbeyk Allaahuma Labbeyk,\u2019 announcing our pilgrim\u2019s dedication and commitment to God. We\u2019ve already encountered those very special people in the Qur\u2019an 5 times so far (HQ2:179; 197; 269; 3:7; 3:190).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> Verses 3:64-68 laid down the basis for the common terms -the Common Word- we should seek with those who follow earlier Compilations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We worship none but God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We associate none with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u2022&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; We appoint none amongst ourselves as Lord or patron beside\/instead of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> Three times so far have we heard the command ending with \u2018\u2026and be aware of God, perchance you will prevail\/succeed\u2019 (2:189; 3:130; 3:200), root verb&nbsp;\u2018falaha\u2019 (\u0641\u0644\u062d). See Blog Post Day 32 for the definition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"#_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a> Y. Ali says in his notes: \u201cThe full meaning of Sabr is to be understood here, viz.: Patience, perseverance, constancy, self-restraint, refusing to be cowed down. These virtues we are to exercise for ourselves and in relation to others; we are to set an example, so that others may vie with us, and we are to vie with them, lest we fall short; in this way we strengthen each other and bind our mutual relations closer, in our common service to God.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">I think the difference between \u0627\u0635\u0628\u0631\u0648\u0627 \u0648\u0635\u0627\u0628\u0631\u0648\u0627 \u2018patiently persevering\u2019 on the one hand, and \u2018vying\u2019 in patient perseverance\u2019 on the other, is that Sabr is within oneself, not related to others, whereas MuSaabarah by definition relates to others, and therefore requires endurance so as to ultimately outlast them\/the ordeal, and prevail. Perhaps we can understand this better if we thought of Sabr\/\u0635\u0628\u0631 as the strength of our patience, and of MuSaabarah\/\u0645\u0635\u0627\u0628\u0631\u0629 as its endurance.. and God knows best.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;Ahlan wa sahlan!
