COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.  Today\u2019s Reading starts with Verse 9 which holds a Promise \u201cwa\u2019ad\u201d -\u0648\u0639\u062f-  made to Those Who Attained Faith and performed good deeds, that they shall indeed obtain Forgiveness and a great reward.  As we always see in the Qur\u2019an, attaining faith and performing good deeds must<\/em> go hand-in-hand, the latter being proof of the former.  Then, after persuasion comes dissuasion in Verse 10 to those who Deny and belie God\u2019s Signs, that they shall indeed be the companions of the Inferno!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.  Verse 11 holds 3 commands:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It first calls upon those Who Attained Faith, telling them to bring to mind God\u2019s Favor\/Bounty\u00a0upon them when they were weak, at which point hostile people attempted to extend their reach\u00a0to them (extend their abilities\/powers\/their aydee\/\u00a0control over them\u00a0\u0623\u064a\u062f\u064a\u0647\u0645.)[1]<\/a>\u00a0 God had gripped and halted\u00a0\u2018\u2013\u0643\u0641\u064e\u0651- \/kaffa\u2019\u00a0the aydee\/powers of those who were about to reach out to hurt them, a development worth recalling to reflect on God\u2019s grace.\u00a0 Then they\u00a0 are told to be aware of God, to have Taqwa.\u00a0 Finally they are told that it is upon God that the Faithful should rely.[2]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here we might ask ourselves, that although we do rely on God completely in matters beyond<\/em> our capacity, shouldn\u2019t we rely on Him equally in matters within<\/em> our capacity, as these are the responsibilities we are entrusted with and accountable for<\/em>? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed. When we have resolved to do something, we should rely on God and exert ourselves, putting to work  all the means He has provided, knowing that it is only with His support that we could accomplish anything, let alone affect the best outcome.[3]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember HQ3:159, the verse addressed to Prophet Muhammad,\ufdfa which instructed him to consult with his followers, but once he has taken a decision, he should (thereafter) rely on God, for indeed God loves those who rely on Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Follow this link \u201c\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u064a\u062d\u0628\u201d in the Tanzil website<\/a> to know whom \u2018God loves.\u2019 It is not surprising to find that persons who are Aware and those who are Fair are most-mentioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore (see HQ16:99), isn\u2019t  \u2018tawakkul\/reliance\u2019 on God a veritable barrier from the influence of the Deviant\/SheyTaan?[4]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking of negative influence, in yesterday\u2019s Reading we learnt that we should not let superstition or divination define our actions or influence our future.  The reason why this is so dangerous is because when we believe that \u2018any-thing\u2019 has control over events, making them inevitable, we are dabbling in shirk by awarding ultimate power to the powerless, and then also being in-the-moment denial\/kufraan (extreme covering, in the now) of the God-given abilities we possess! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our collective human actions (whether general a\u2019maal or specific af\u2019aal -see Day 34) contribute to bring about a happening within the realm of possibilities that God had compiled\/kataba\/\u0643\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0628\u064e.[5]<\/a>  It is not the compilation \u2018kitaab\u2019 that has power, but God Himself.  In HQ 13:39 we note that it is He Who affirms or deletes what He wishes to from any \u2018kitaab.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

God Alone is Omnipotent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.  Verse 12 discusses the \u2018covenant\/ solemn pledge\u2019 (Ali\/Asad) God took from Bani Isra-eel, that God will be with them, will overlook their trespasses and reward them with Gardens beneath which rivers flow IF they did the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7        Upheld regular Communion\/Prayer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7        Delivered regular Zakaat\/purification of their dues & grew in purity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7        Had Faith and trust in God\u2019s Messengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7        Assisted God\u2019s Messengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00b7        Offered to God a beautiful loan (of good deeds to be returned to  them manifold on Judgment Day).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.  As Readers will note in Verse 13, they \u2018breached their covenant\/ broke their solemn pledge\u2019 (Ali\/Asad) with God, deserving His rejection and incurring a hardening of their hearts\/minds.  Read the full verse.  It is interesting to note that God asks Muhammad, peace upon him, to overlook and forgive them, for indeed God loves the \u2018Muhsins,\u2019 those who do deeds of goodness disregarding mitigating factors (in themselves or others.  Did you notice in the Tanzil exercise above that the Qur\u2019an twice mentions \u2018\u2026God loves the Muhsins?\u2019)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is an Arabic saying: \u201cRestraint is better than legal retribution, and Forgiveness is best.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c<\/strong>\u0627\u0644\u0635\u0628\u0631 \u0623\u062d\u0633\u0646 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0642\u0635\u0627\u0635 \u0648\u0627\u0644\u0639\u0641\u0648 \u0623\u062d\u0633\u0646<\/strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.  Verse 14 is about those who announced that they are the \u2018Nasaaraa.\u2019  The Followers of Jesus, peace upon him, are not called \u2018Christians\u2019 in the Qur\u2019an but rather, they are called the \u2018Nasaaraa,\u2019 thought to be related to the verb \u2018naSara,\u2019 similar to  \u2018Helpers\/Supporters;\u2019 probably in reference to Jesus\u2019 inquiry as to who would be his helpers towards God, and the disciples\u2019 response that it is they<\/em> who would be God\u2019s \u2018Ansaar\u2019 (HQ3:52; 61:14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This verse addresses them, making it clear that although they may have upheld their pledge in part, yet they forgot a good part of what they were told to bear in mind, which is the main reason for their estrangement from each other (Ali) and \u201cthe enmity and hatred which has so often set the Christian nations against one another and led to unceasing wars and mutual persecution\u201d (M. Asad\u2019s note 27).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6.  Verses 15-16 addresses the People of (earlier) Compilation directly,[6]<\/a> telling them that God\u2019s Messenger (Muhammad) has indeed come to them, exposing much of what they had kept hidden and overlooking much.  From God has come to them Illumination and an explicit Compilation, by which God guides whomever seeks His \u2018good Pleasure\/Acceptance\u2019 to Paths of Peace, taking them, by His \u2018will\/grace\u2019 out of the Darkness-es (pl) into the Light, guiding them to a Straightened Path.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7.  Verse 17 speaks of those who say that \u2018God IS the Messiah, Son of Mary,\u2019 accusing them of \u2018denying,\u2019 or committing an act of covering of truth.  The verse then tells Muhammad, peace upon him, to ask them: \u201cWho possesses anything (of impact) with regard to God, should He will the Messiah Son of Mary to perish together with his mother and everyone else on the earth?  For to God belong the Dominions of Heaven and Earth and all in between, He creates what He wills<\/em>, and He is Capable over all things (making them what they are as well as projecting them to their ultimate end).   This seems to highlight Jesus\u2019 being created<\/em> by God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our next Reading is from HQ5: 18-31<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
