pages 147-148"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Dear Readers, congratulations are in order!&nbsp;&nbsp;We have now studied together 1\/4<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;of the Qur\u2019an!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Today we will attempt to arrive at an understanding of several important concepts, so do wear your \u2018thinking caps!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;In today\u2019s Reading, Verses 143-144 ridicule other&nbsp;superstitions and customs among the idol-worshipping tribes of the time, related to what they allege that God has forbidden them to eat of their livestock.&nbsp;&nbsp;The latter part of verse 144 asks them whether they were witnesses to God enjoining that, and states \u2013 by way of a question- that no one could be more of a wrong-doer than someone who fabricates a lie, attributing it to God, so as to misguide people without knowledge.&nbsp;&nbsp;Indeed, God does not guide the People who are Wrongdoers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">These verses are interesting in that they discuss self-imposed food restrictions which are falsely attributed to God.&nbsp; This is something to remember when we speak of \u2018halal and haram.\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;In Verse 145 the Messenger Muhammad, peace upon him, is commanded to say that he has NOT FOUND among all the information\/revelation imparted to him ANYTHING FORBIDDEN to a consumer to consume, OTHER THAN <strong><u>carrion<\/u>, spilled&nbsp;<u>blood<\/u>, and the flesh of <u>swine<\/u><\/strong><strong>; for it is indeed turmoil (rijs; <\/strong>consuming it causes one\u2019s turmoil, or it is in itself a sign of one\u2019s turmoil)&nbsp;<strong>OR it is desertion\/betrayal (fisq; a&nbsp;<u>breach of faith)&nbsp;<\/u>slaughtered in the name of other than God<\/strong>&nbsp;(as in HQ6:121).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>However, whoever partakes&nbsp;<\/strong>(of any of these 4 forbidden items)&nbsp;<strong>out of necessity, with no self-inclination or indulgence, God is Forgiving and Unceasingly Merciful<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Rijs: Taking the word \u2018rijs\/\u0631\u062c\u0633\u2019 in context \u2013 and cross-referencing it in Tanzil- we find it appears 9 times, and indicates an opposition to, or a Disconnect in, Faith and Trust, as in HQ10:100 and in our \u2018scientific marvel\u2019 6:125 \u2026That is how God brings about Turmoil upon those who do not have Faith and Trust.\u201d Remember when we discussed earlier, that abstention from the \u2018forbidden\u2019 is a Non-negotiable Act of Worship?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Notice that what is considered \u2018turmoil\u2019 are the first three, which we are forbidden from, but might find anywhere.&nbsp;&nbsp;As for animal sacrifices to deities\/idols, these are NOT readily available, but are slaughtered at certain times\/places with specific rituals involved.&nbsp;&nbsp;If anyone were to willingly consume something known to be dedicated to other than God, it would not be turmoil, but a straightforward&nbsp;<em>Breach\/ Desertion\/Betrayal of Faith and Trust<\/em>&nbsp;\u2018fisq\u2019&nbsp;\u0641\u0633\u0642&nbsp;-which would denote that person\u2019s point of no return (see <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D9%81%D8%B3%D9%82\">fisq \u0641\u0633\u0642&nbsp;in Tanzil<\/a>; note the difference between \u2018rijs\u2019 and \u2018fisq.\u2019&nbsp;\u2018Fisq\u2019 describes Iblees\u2019 point of no return in HQ18:50 and the Deniers point of no return in HQ10:33)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is important for us, as people of Faith, not to ask \u2018why\u2019 regarding these prohibitions in our diet.&nbsp; We could seek justification in all kinds of \u2018proven\u2019 scientific data, but none of that would give us a timeless, conclusive answer;<a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> final justification lies simply in WORSHIP.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Ibaadah\/.\u0639\u0628\u0627\u062f\u0629<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Being a sincere \u2018Abd means:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Acknowledgement and Acquiescence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Remember what we said in earlier postings, that a faithful person will not need&nbsp;-nor will the Qur\u2019an provide- ANY grounds to justify WHY these foods were forbidden (unlike the explanations provided for intoxicants which offer leeway for the use of medicinal drugs, see <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/227\">Blog Post Day 18<\/a> Posting Jan. 20, 21).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;Although, today, offerings to deities do not concern us, for Those Who had Attained Faith in Mecca, these were staples of the idolatrous life they were born into, often placing them in life or death situations:&nbsp; A mere refusal to eat of a sacrificial animal PUBLICIZED their faith, at a time when the chieftains of Mecca were vicious in their attempt to nip it in the bud.&nbsp; It was dangerous for the vulnerable people of Faith&nbsp; (women, slaves, servants) to show themselves, which is why most of those who followed the Messenger had not gone open about this, yet.&nbsp; Nevertheless, it was a STANCE that had to be taken:&nbsp;A&nbsp;Faithful person can only conduct his\/her life in God\u2019s Name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 146 mentions some of the foods that became forbidden to \u201cThose Who Haadoo\/ Allatheena Haadoo\/<a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>\u0627\u0644\u0630\u064a\u0646 \u0647\u0627\u062f\u0648\u0627 (a term we usually translate simply as \u2018the Jews,\u2019 without specifying the different terminology&nbsp; between that, and another term, \u2018Al Yahood\/ \u2018\u2026\u0627\u0644\u064a\u0647\u0648\u062f).<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This verse tells us that the reason behind this additional charge put upon them was in recompense for their wrongdoing&nbsp; \u2018beghi\/\u0628\u063a\u064a\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn5\" id=\"_ftnref5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Muhammad Asad refers readers to the Old Testament, Leviticus vii, 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 147 concludes the \u2018Forbidden Foods\u2019 section of this entire Chapter Al An\u2019aam, telling the Messenger that even if they (the people mentioned in previous verses) belied him (calling him a liar), he should say:&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cYour Lord is of Mercy All-Inclusive\/All-embracing, yet His \u201cBa\u2019ss\/\u201d&nbsp;\u0628\u0623\u0633&nbsp; hard-hitting, dire recompense<a href=\"#_ftn6\" id=\"_ftnref6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a> can never be averted from the Evil-Earners-\u2018mujrims\u2019 (see <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/366\">Blog Day 54<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/410\">Blog Day 67<\/a> for definition of Mujrim).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 148-149 hold a statement made by Those who Shirk God, in which they said, \u201c<strong>If God had shaa\u2019\/<\/strong><strong>\u0634\u0627\u0621<\/strong><strong>\/willed it, we would not have shirked Him (by associating partners with him)\u2026\u201d<\/strong><a href=\"#_ftn7\" id=\"_ftnref7\"><sup>[7]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This verse is important in that it shows us how unacceptable their statement is, indicating that their lack of faith is not their choice, arguing that God could have made them people of faith.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">But isn\u2019t this what so many believe, often avoiding responsibility for failures by saying:&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201c<em>It is\/was God\u2019s will \u2026 not mine..\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 150 shows us TO WHOM belongs the final \u2018argument\/evidence\u2019 (Ali\/Asad):&nbsp;&nbsp;It is God\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is best to read the two explanations <em>and their commentaries<\/em> to get the viewpoints <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=6&amp;Ayah=150&amp;toAyah=150&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">of Ali<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=6&amp;Ayah=150&amp;toAyah=150&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a> on this very important discussion of \u2018free will:\u2019&nbsp;<strong><em>How free are we, really?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a><strong>The way I see this today, after my attempts at understanding is:<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Just as God is Limitless in His attributes, He is also limitless in what He offers Humanity as possibilities.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Whenever we have a few possibilities to choose from, the choice we make becomes a reality which opens up another set of possibilities. So our choices are NOT predestined, but rather, they are&nbsp;<em>Defined<\/em>; in other words,&nbsp;<em>the EXISTENCE of each choice is DEPENDENT on all the choices we made before it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We have in the famous incident between Omar Ibn al Khattab and Abu Ubaydah Ibn al Jarrah the best example.&nbsp;&nbsp;This \u2018hadeeth\u2019 was narrated by Bukhari:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cUmar ibn al-Khattab set out for Al Shaam (Syria) and when he was at Sargh, near Tabuk, the army commander, Abu Ubayda ibn al-Jarrah and his companions, met him, and told him that <strong>the plague<\/strong>&nbsp;had broken out in Al Shaam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Ibn Abbas related, \u201cUmar ibn al-Khattab said, \u2018call first the Emigrants\/Muhaajireen unto me.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">He assembled them and asked them for advice, informing them that the plague had broken out in Al Shaam. Their opinions differed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Some said, \u2018You have set out for something, and we do not think that you should leave it.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Others said, \u2018You have the companions of the Prophet, peace upon him, and the rest of the people with you, and we do not think that you should send them towards this plague.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Umar said, \u2018Leave me.\u2019 Then he said, \u2018Summon the Ansaar\/ Helpers\/Supporters to me.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">They were summoned and he asked them for advice. They offered similar arguments to the Ansaar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">He said, \u2018Leave me.\u2019 \u201cThen he said, \u2018Summon to me whoever is here of the aged men of Qureysh from the Muhajireen.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">He summoned them and not one of them differed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">They said, \u2018We think that you should withdraw the people and not send them towards the plague.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Umar called out to the people, \u2018I am leaving by camel in the morning,\u2019 so they set out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Abu Ubayda said, \u2018Is it flight from the Qadar of God?\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Umar said, \u2018Better that someone other than you had said that, Abu Ubayda.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Yes. We flee from the Qadar of God to the Qadar of God!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>What would you think if these camels had gone down into a valley which had two slopes, one of them fertile, and the other barren.&nbsp;<em>If you pastured in the fertile part, wouldn\u2019t you pasture them by the Qadar of God? If you pastured them in the barren part, wouldn\u2019t you pasture them by the Qadar of God?\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn8\" id=\"_ftnref8\"><sup><strong><sup>[8]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">That is how I see this issue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>BOTH \u2018pastures\u2019 are in God\u2019s \u2018Qadar,\u2019 but the&nbsp;CHOICE&nbsp;of pasture&nbsp;is OURS.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>The possibilities God offers us are limitless.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In this lowly, immediate life we collectively taste much of the consequences of human action and inaction, although God causes much of what should befall us to dissipate without harm as <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#42:30\">in HQ 42:30<\/a> (our bodies, flora and fauna, the earth itself and its resources.. everything in God\u2019s Creation is programmed to mend itself, and so it does unless interrupted).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We all have possibilities to choose from, each choice opening up another set of choices. Our choices are not predestined, but rather, the sequence which follows each choice is defined by its own nature, following God\u2019s Sunna of Creation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In short, everything we do conforms to realities of cause, effect, and consequence, but the choices are ours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>This is what individuals who&nbsp;evade responsibility must understand!&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Enough said!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ6:151-165<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> See <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/366\">Blog Day 54<\/a>, where we read about what is \u2018halaal\/unbound\/permissible\u2019 for consumption, where the Messenger peace upon him is to tell people that everything wholesome is allowed, and that God\u2019s name should be mentioned upon what one eats, and to be aware of God, for He is swift in keeping count, and renders to each their account-record!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" id=\"_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> We know today that pig-meat, pork -which had always been deemed not very healthy to eat due to fat content and other issues- is now processed, produced and promoted as the \u2018other white meat,\u2019 approved health-wise, but INVIOLABLE to us nevertheless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\" id=\"_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> Al Qurtubi says that \u2018Allatheen Haadoo\u2019 are <em>those who became \u2018Yahood,\u2019<\/em> related to Yahootha, the eldest son of Jacob, peace upon him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Al Tabari says that the word \u2018haadoo\u2019 means \u2018repented,\u2019 and refers to the statement they made in <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D9%87%D8%AF%D9%86%D8%A7%20%D8%A5%D9%84%D9%8A%D9%83\">HQ 7:96<\/a> where they said: \u201c\u2026. [\u0633\u0648\u0631\u0629 \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0639\u0631\u0627\u0641: 156].<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref4\" id=\"_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> The Qur\u2019an differentiates between different groups of people by giving them different \u2018titles;\u2019 we should try to at least observe the existence of these distinctions although it is hard for us to note the difference between, for example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Bani Isra\u2019eel\/ \u0628\u0646\u064a \u0625\u0633\u0631\u0627\u0626\u064a\u0644\u2026 versus Al Yahood\/ \u0627\u0644\u064a\u0647\u0648\u062f\u2026. versus&nbsp; Allatheena Hadoo\/ \u0627\u0644\u0630\u064a\u0646 \u0647\u0627\u062f\u0648\u0627<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">For now, let\u2019s just start by acknowledging the distinction which exists in the Arabic, and try not to lose it by simply saying \u2018Jews.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref5\" id=\"_ftn5\"><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">[5] The root-verb \u2018baghaya\u2019 has two denotations, the first is to seek and ask for something -as in to \u2018want after it\u2019- regardless of whether it is good or bad (t<a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/root\/%D8%A8%D8%BA%D9%89\">he Qur\u2019an has instances<\/a> of both, \u2018wanting after\u2019 something positive or something negative).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The second denotation is negative, indicating a kind of corruption -as in wrongdoing, oppression, and harlotry.&nbsp;
