{"id":495,"date":"2021-11-21T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-11-21T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=495"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:33","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:33","slug":"welcome-friends-day-85-quran-7138-149-pages-167168","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-85-quran-7138-149-pages-167168\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 7:138-149, pages 167+168"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In yesterday\u2019s Reading, God\u2019s Word was fulfilled upon Bani Isra-eel for their patient forbearance, while Pharaoh and his people, and everything they had fabricated and constructed, was destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 138-140 see the deliverance of Bani Isra-eel across the \u2018wide body of water\u2019 the \u2018baHr-&nbsp;\u0628\u062d\u0631<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>1<\/sup><\/a>\u2019\u2013 which as our 1,000 year old Lexicon tells us, refers to both sea and river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">(Arabs today use the word \u2018buHeyrah \u0628\u062d\u064a\u0631\u0629-&nbsp;&nbsp;\u2019 for lake -which literally means a small body of water- while \u2018baHrah&nbsp;\u0628\u062d\u0631\u0629-&nbsp;\u2018 is a fountain.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Please note that placing these incidents in a Biblical context leads us out of its Qur\u2019anic context.&nbsp;&nbsp;In trying to understand the Qur\u2019an AS IT WAS REVEALED, it is counterproductive to deviate from the Qur\u2019anic information into what might be found in other sources.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is misleading to label or name what the Qur\u2019an mentions without a name or label, as many have done at times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">These verses show us how, after crossing the water and arriving at a place where people were worshipping idols, they asked Moses to make a \u2018god\u2019 for them, similar to these \u2018gods,\u2019 for them to worship (!).&nbsp;&nbsp;As we said previously:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>\u201cIn studying the effects of slavery, one must note that persons who have never been free, will not only be lacking qualities of leadership, but they usually find difficulty in accepting any kind of change -even when it\u2019s for the better. This seems to be one of the main reasons behind the lack of positivity which Moses\u2019 followers were notorious for and\u2026\u201d<\/em> (Read full&nbsp;posting <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/120\">Blog Post Day 5<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">He responded that they were people who were being ignorant \u0642\u0648\u0645 \u062a\u062c\u0647\u0644\u0648\u0646 \/qawm tajhaloon, and showed them the worthlessness of such deeds, and asked how he could even seek for them a deity other than God who had given&nbsp;them more\/an extra measure<a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>2<\/sup><\/a> of His Bounty than he had given all others (see <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/271\">Blog Day 27<\/a> for the meaning of faDl).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">To understand the verb \u2018faDdala\u2019 as \u2018to prefer\u2019 is inaccurate (that\u2019s the <em>modern Arabic usage<\/em>&nbsp;of the word).&nbsp;&nbsp;Bani Isra-eel are believed by some to be \u2018the chosen people,\u2019 which is neither true of them nor of any other groups in the Qur\u2019an; see HQ 3:73-74.&nbsp;&nbsp;God did not \u2018choose\u2019 any nation or race above others, although He did choose persons and their families for certain responsibilities, such as Mary, Abraham and his family, Imraan and his family (<a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%A7%D8%B5%D8%B7%D9%81%D9%89\">see the word&nbsp;\u0627\u0635\u0637\u0641\u0649&nbsp;&nbsp; in Tanzil<\/a>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As for our translators, I find Yusuf Ali\u2019s closer to the Arabic because Asad\u2019s choice of the word \u2018favored\u2019 sounds preferential:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Yusuf Ali:<strong>&nbsp;\u201c.. endowed you with gifts above the nations..\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Muhammad Asad:<strong>&nbsp;\u201c.. favored you above all other people (ie: by having raised so many prophets out of their midst).\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 141 mentions the most recent of God\u2019s bounties to them: Deliverance after bondage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 142-143 discuss Moses\u2019 appointed time with his Lord-Sustainer, and how Moses, after his Lord had spoken to him, couldn\u2019t help but ask to see Him\/look at Him. Commentators tell us that this was a natural consequence to having literally been spoken to by God; a bequest no other Messenger before -or since- had ever received!&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 143 is the response to his request- to which Moses responded with repentance:&nbsp;&nbsp;See&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=143&amp;toAyah=143&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Yusuf Ali<\/a>\u2019s and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=143&amp;toAyah=143&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Muhammad Asad<\/a>\u2019s explanations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3.&nbsp;Verse 144 quite clearly shows us that Moses was chosen by God&nbsp;\u0627\u0635\u0637\u0641\u064a\u062a\u0643&nbsp;\/iStafaytuka above people to deliver God\u2019s Messages AND to be spoken to\u2026 the verse is well-explained by both Ali and Asad, except for the ending&nbsp;\u0643\u0646 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0634\u0627\u0643\u0631\u064a\u0646&nbsp;\/kun min al shaakireen which they translated as:&nbsp;&nbsp;Ali: \u201c..give thanks.\u201d; Asad: \u201c\u2026grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Our Regular Readers would know (from <a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/205\">Blog Post Day 12<\/a>) that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cThe word \u2018shukr\u2019 in Arabic does not denote simple gratitude or thanks, although that may be how the word is understood today. \u2018<em>Shukr\u2019 means APPRECIATION (opposite of depreciation); accepting what is little and making the most of it until it achieves abundance (as in the example of a \u2018shakoor\u2019 horse or tree in the definition).<a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup><strong><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp; Verse 145 mentions the \u2018alwaaH\/tablets\u2019 upon which admonition was compiled for Moses, peace upon him. It is interesting to note here that while God commanded Moses to FIRMLY\/with strength \u2018take\/hold onto\u2019 the tablets, he told him to instruct his people to \u2018take\/hold onto\u2019 the BEST\/most beautiful of them.&nbsp; What does that mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It means that God\u2019s instructions are all good\/beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It means that within these instructions there is good and there is better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It means that one should try to do the better deed whenever possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">An example for that is that when scripture permits people a just retribution against others.&nbsp; In that case, if there is room for forgiveness, then forgiveness would be the aHsan\/better and more beautiful.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>What amazing instruction this is!<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Qur\u2019an TELLS US something similar in <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#39:55\">&nbsp;HQ 39:55<\/a>, that we should follow the better\/best\/most beautiful of what has been revealed to us by our Lord-Sustainer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is clear that we always have choices, some better than others!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 146-147 give us two statements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0The first is related to those who \u2018behave arrogantly on earth in defiance of right;\u2019 they suffer the consequences of their heedlessness; if they were to see the Signs, they would not have faith and trust in them, and if they were to see the way of right conduct they would not adopt it, choosing error instead (see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=146&amp;toAyah=146&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=146&amp;toAyah=146&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0The second is related to those who belie God\u2019s Signs\/consider them false, and the meeting in the hereafter; they will have their efforts\/labor painfully voided\/desolated (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wordpress.com\/post\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/268\">Blog Post Day 26<\/a>\u00a0for the word \u2018HabaTa\u2019), being recompensed for what they had done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6.&nbsp;Verses 148-149 are related to Moses\u2019 people making out of their jewelry a calf that was \u2018jasad\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;\u062c\u0633\u062f&nbsp;&nbsp; a lifeless figure which had \u2018khuwaar\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;(commentators tell us that this figure was hollow, so that air passed through,&nbsp; making a sound, \u2018khuwaar\u2019- a term which&nbsp;although it does&nbsp;refer to the lowing of cattle, it also refers to being \u2018weak\/feeble\u2019-&nbsp; a term we still use today when we say that someone is weak from hunger (\u062e\u0627\u0631 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u062c\u0648\u0639) or his strength is \u2018khaarat\u2019 \u062e\u0627\u0631\u062a \u0642\u0648\u062a\u0647 &nbsp;) see definition.<sup> <a href=\"#_ftn5\" id=\"_ftnref5\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">They worshipped it, wronging their own Selves, but when they realized that they had strayed and lost their way, they sought their Lord\u2019s mercy and forgiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Although their supplication somewhat <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D9%84%D9%86%D9%83%D9%88%D9%86%D9%86%20%D9%85%D9%86%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AE%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%86\">echoes the supplication of Adam and his spouse<\/a> after they ate of the forbidden tree, we note the difference in the splendor of the couple\u2019s direct address \u2018OUR Lord-Sustainer,\u2019 in their&nbsp; firm acknowledgment of wrongdoing, and the humility of their repentance.&nbsp; That is why HQ7:23 is one of the supplications we should memorize!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 7:150-159.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr lexicon below indicates that Shukr is (on one hand) to show appreciation as in, to a person who bestowed a kindness, and (on the other hand) to make something plentiful and abundant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Note how the lexicon says that the REALITY of \u2018shukr\u2019 is the acceptance of whatever little is given and making the most out of it, giving the example of a \u2018shakoor\u2019 that gets fat on just a little fodder, and a \u2018shakoorah\u2019 tree that gives abundant shade.&nbsp; To help us understand this better we can simply say that Shukr is Appreciation, not simply gratitude, but LITERAL Appreciation, the opposite of Depreciation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u0634\u064e\u0643\u064e\u0631\u064e:
