Verses 150-151 continue with the story of Prophets Moses and Aaron, peace upon them both, showing us Moses\u2019 disappointment\/sense of loss\/asaf<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> upon returning to find his people worshipping the calf, and his \u2018ghaDab\u2019&nbsp; feelings of severity that had reached the extreme -in the now- so that he had become \u2018ghaDbaan\u2019 (similar to HQ20:86).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is important here to speak of two words often considered synonyms taken to mean anger or wrath:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Gheyth\/\u063a\u064a\u0638 (hard \u2018th\u2019 sound) and ghaDab\/\u063a\u0636\u0628.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We encountered the first in 3:134 and saw how commendable it is to restrain one\u2019s anger\/ gheyth\/\u063a\u064a\u0638.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The word \u2018ghaDab&#8217; mentioned here however (in its superlative and emergent form&nbsp; according to \u2018fa\u2019laan\u2019) is different; a ghaDbah\/\u063a\u0636\u0628\u0629 is a hard rock, and the word refers to \u2018severity and strength&#8217; and not to a reaction -which is why the Qur\u2019an speaks of God\u2019s GhaDab only.&nbsp; It is human beings we might feel the blameworthy, raging negative reaction called GheyTh;&nbsp; that of course, is never attributed to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We note his disappointment at the gravity of the situation and are told of the verbal and physical exchange he had with his brother Aaron whom he had left in charge, but who had almost gotten himself killed for trying to stop them.&nbsp; Moses then asks God to forgive them both and admit them into His Mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;In Verses 152-153, God promises dire consequence to those who took the calf for worship, as indeed will be the reward of any who invent falsehood (see&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=152&amp;toAyah=152&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>), while there will be forgiveness for any who repent AND recommit to faith after committing wrongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 154-155 continue the narrative; at the end of verse 154 is a description of what the tablets contain:&nbsp;<em>Gift-Guidance and Mercy<\/em>&nbsp;FOR THOSE who are in awe of their Lord-Sustainer, while at the end of verse 155 we find Moses\u2019 beautiful supplication to his Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Here we encounter for the third time the word \u2018meeqaat\u2019 which we explained earlier in 7:142, 143 as \u2018appointed time.\u2019&nbsp; This word is interesting because we use it also when we travel for pilgrimage to Mecca, the \u2018meeqat\u2019 in that case being the specific location where the appointed time begins.<a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>Verse 156 continues Moses\u2019 supplication.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>[7:156]<br>And \u2018compile\/put together\u2019 for us, in this immediate world, what is good, and in the Hereafter. Verily, we have succumbed\/turned in repentance<a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup><strong><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a> unto You!&#8230;\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">At the center of the verse we get God\u2019s response, as explained:<strong><br>He [God] said: \u201cWith My chastisement I afflict whom I will \u2013 and My Mercy encompasses everything, so I shall \u2018compile it\/put it together\u2019 to the benefit of those who are Aware and spend in purifying dues, and those who in Our messages do have Faith and Trust.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">That in itself is a heart-melting declaration, if we but reflected upon it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;Then, after the supplication in this verse and God\u2019s immediate response, the next verse seamlessly delivers a MAJOR STATEMENT, going to (what would be considered) \u2018the future\u2019 in the eyes of Prophet Moses and his generation, peace upon him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Take a look:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Delivered in the&nbsp;<em>present continuous,<\/em>&nbsp;it is Timeless:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>&nbsp;[7:157]<\/strong><br><strong>Those who follow the Messenger, the Unindoctrinated<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup><strong><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;Prophet whom they find (reports of) compiled in the Torah and the Evangel: who commands them to what is mutually acceptable and forbids them of what is mutually objectionable, and makes lawful to them all that is Wholesome and forbids\/makes inviolable them what is Unwholesome, and relieves them of them their burden and the shackles that were upon them. Those, therefore, who have Faith and Trust in him, and honor him and gave him prominence, and follow the Light that was sent down with him\u2013 they are indeed the Successful!\u201d<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Dear Reader:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Anyone who has true Faith and Trust in God, without bias to the teachings of a certain creed, would realize that this verse illustrates the continuation of God\u2019s single Message, which achieves its finality in Prophet Muhammad, peace upon him, as the Light sent down with him.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>This verse shows us that the timeless enlightenment contained in this Qur\u2019an, although sent to all Humanity, is most appreciable when recognized by followers of Moses\u2019 Torah and Jesus\u2019 Evangel<strong>.&nbsp;<\/strong>Doesn\u2019t&nbsp;God introduce to them His Messenger as someone sent to relieve&nbsp;<strong>their<\/strong>&nbsp;burden and free&nbsp;<strong>their <\/strong>shackles?&nbsp;He IS a Mercy to Mankind(HQ21: 107).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong><em>Many were those wonderful Seekers of God, followers of the Torah and Evangel, who upon opening to<\/em><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;<em>God\u2019s&nbsp;Light, seamlessly continued their journey towards Him through the Qur\u2019an. One such Seeker was our Muhammad Asad, born Leopold Weiss!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>Then, after that beautiful introduction comes the announcement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>[7:158]<br>Say: \u201cO Cognizant Humans! I am the Messenger of God (sent) to you all, He to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: there is no god but He: He gives both life and death. Examples: The \u2018umm\u2019 of our head is our brain; the \u2018imaam\u2019 is the one who \u2018precedes\u2019 stands ahead of others so they would follow him.&nbsp; \u2018Heading\u2019 towards something is called \u2018tayammum\u2019 in Arabic (2:267); hence the Qur\u2019an gives us license to \u2018head towards wholesome earth\u2019 (4:43; 5:6) when we do not find water to make our \u2018wudu\/ablution\u2019\u2026.
