{"id":515,"date":"2022-03-06T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-06T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=515"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:33","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:33","slug":"welcome-friends-blog-day-87-quran-7159-170-pages-171172","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-blog-day-87-quran-7159-170-pages-171172\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 7:159-170, pages 171+172"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">After the closing verses of our last Reading (HQ7:157-158), I feel that I must begin by saluting all our dear Brothers and Sisters who made the leap of faith, not from one \u2018religion\u2019 to another (we now know that the concept of different \u2018religions\u2019 is flawed) but the leap to a higher level of awareness in their own inborn, intuitive, God-given, Standard of Accountability&nbsp;-\u2018\u062f\u064a\u0646\u2019 \/Deen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">If only more of us realized this and lived up to the Standard of Islam; we would be partners at peace with each other in Pure Reverence to God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">As Muhammad Asad said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIslam appears to me like a perfect work of architecture.&nbsp;&nbsp;All its parts are harmoniously conceived to complement and support each other; nothing is superfluous and nothing lacking; and the result is a structure of absolute balance and solid composure.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Yusuf Ali\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;Translation of this Chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Muhammad Asad\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;Translation of this Chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;Our Reading today starts with Verse 159 (of the previous page), in which we find that, OF&nbsp;\u0645\u0650\u0646&nbsp;\/min Moses\u2019 followers there were indeed such people who guided others in the Truth and acted justly in light of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 160 takes us back to the narrative of Prophet Moses, peace upon him, and his people, who were divided into twelve tribes.&nbsp;&nbsp;Such narratives bore lessons for the early Faithful, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=160&amp;toAyah=160&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">as Yusuf Ali tells us:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe now come to some incidents in Jewish history, which have been referred to in Q2:57-60. Here they have special reference to their bearing on the times when early Islam was preached. The Twelve Tribes and the parable drawn from them have been explained in Q2:60.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Asad tells us that these verses return us to the \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=159&amp;toAyah=159&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">MORAL HISTORY\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;of Bani Isra-eel (Verse 160 explained by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=160&amp;toAyah=160&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Verses 161-162 tell us of&nbsp;God\u2019s bounteous offerings, with the command that they enter the gate humbly\/ in prostration, but they did not respond to that command, doing something else instead. They were \u2018transgressors\/those who were bent on wrongdoing\u2019 (Ali\/Asad).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">3.\u00a0\u00a0Verse 163 begins another narrative, telling Prophet Muhammad, peace upon him, to ask the Jews about a famous story which took place in a town by the sea, on a day of rest and stillness (see HQ2:65).\u00a0\u00a0\u2018Sabt,\u2019\u00a0\u00a0\u0633\u0628\u062a which in Arabic means \u2018rest and stillness\u00a0<a id=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>\u2019 also means Saturday when indicating a day of the week (still used in Arabic); in English it is the \u2018Sabbath.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Explained by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=163&amp;toAyah=163&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>&nbsp;in full, here is an excerpt from his commentary:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSince the Qur\u2019\u0101n does not mention the name of the town nor give any indication as to the historical period in which those offences were committed, it may be assumed that the story of the Sabbath-breakers (alluded to in several places in the Qur\u2019\u0101n) is a general illustration of the tendency, so often manifested by the children of Israel, to offend against their religious laws in pursuit of their passions or for the sake of worldly gain. Although, according to the teachings of Islam, the Mosaic dispensation has since been abrogated, the Qur\u2019\u0101n frequently points out its great role in the history of man\u2019s monotheistic beliefs, and stresses again and again its (time-bound) importance as a means of enforcing spiritual discipline on the children of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">It is interesting to note that the word \u2018Hoot\u2019 from the verb \u2018Hawata\u2019 is about agitation and tilting\/turning, and the lack of stability, as our lexicon tells us.<sup> <a id=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0A Hoot is a big sea-creature\/fish which is always moving and doesn\u2019t stand still.\u00a0 The Arabs say: That person \u2018<em>haawatani\u2019<\/em> meaning he outmaneuvered me.<a id=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>Verses 164-166 continue the narrative, which ends with the words as explained by Ali\/<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=166&amp;toAyah=166&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a> : \u2018\u2026and we said to them: Be ye apes despised and rejected\/Be as apes despicable.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We may remember that when the story was first mentioned in 2:265 and 5:60 that both our commentators consider the \u2018qiradah\u2019 (\u2018apes) to be metaphorical.&nbsp;Others said it was literal.&nbsp;&nbsp;For me the importance is in the story itself and its aftermath where:&nbsp; <strong>Each deed gets its consequence in kind<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">However, doing IQRA! we would be remiss if we don\u2019t look to the linguistic root \u2018qarada\u2019 and its meaning wherein -as always- lies the truth. Here we are in for a surprise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The earlier lexicon of Ibn Faris doesn\u2019t speak of \u2018apes\u2019 at all,<sup> <a id=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/sup>\u00a0 but rather of the verb \u2018qarada\u2019 being about something intermittently gathered, someone fearful and humiliated, and also of tricking other people to benefit from their misfortune.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Each of these is very interesting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">The word \u2018qiradah\u2019 in the Qur\u2019an is followed by \u2018khaasi\u2019een\u2019<a id=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> which refers to banishment, leading me to understand that God is declaring them to break apart and be humiliated, and God knows best.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">It is interesting to note that a century after Ibn Faris, the first meaning in Al Isfahani\u2019s lexicon is that of apes, listed even before the linguistic meaning of the root-verb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;Referring back to verses 157-158 which were speaking about the Messenger, and telling him to announce himself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Some might have considered these verses to be \u2018an interpolation\u2019- a change of subject- in the middle of all the on Moses and his followers.. but no!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I think these narratives are directly related to the fact that this Qur\u2019anic Message and its Messenger, are here to \u2018relieve the burden and release the shackles\u2019 borne by those who had been THE Faithful on this earth, prior to its arrival!&nbsp;&nbsp;We may think that these stories only serve as timeless warnings\u2026 but perhaps we should also see them as invitations!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Isn\u2019t God speaking here to people whose burdens were great, whether by their inherited laws (such as the Jews) or by their inherited beliefs (such as the Christians who believe in original sin where even a newborn is damned)?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>In commanding His Messenger to ask the Jews of such stories, and then actually giving them details even they did not know of\u2026 wasn\u2019t God showing them the Truth of this Message AND its purpose as a route to their deliverance?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">We can see that more clearly when we realize, that PUNISHMENT for breach of the Sabbath was DEATH under Mosaic Law, as explained by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=2&amp;Ayah=65&amp;toAyah=65&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Yusuf Ali<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe punishment for breach of the Sabbath under the Mosaic law was death. \u201cEvery one that defieth it (the Sabbath) shall surely be put to death; for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.\u201d (Exod. xxxi. 14).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 167-168 take us to even later generations, among whom were the goodly\/virtuous\/principled people and those less so.&nbsp;(<em>Here we find ourselves on familiar ground; this could be a description of us\u2026<\/em>)&nbsp;&nbsp;Both were tried with prosperity and adversity, which actually were opportunities for them to return to God!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">7.&nbsp;&nbsp;Then Verse 169 tells us of those who \u2018inherited the Compilation..\u2019 (we must disregard Ali\u2019s word in brackets: \u2018<em>evil<\/em>.\u2019&nbsp;Inheriting anything, in itself, makes us take it for granted!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Indeed, if we saw the timelessness of these verses, we would NOT limit them to the tribes they mention alone, but would see much resemblance in ourselves today.&nbsp;WE have literally inherited the Compilation\u2026 and are now going the same way, despite having read, and studied, and pledged ourselves to what it holds.&nbsp;&nbsp;Amongst us are those who consider themselves beyond reproach, to be forgiven because of our \u2018heritage\u2019\u2013 each to our specific sect, of course!&nbsp;&nbsp;The ending says it all:&nbsp;&nbsp;the Home of the Hereafter is best for the AWARE- do we not secure comprehension??!!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Let us be of \u2018those who cling fast to the Compilation and uphold the Communion\u2019 (with God and His creation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">God does not allow, to be lost, any rewards of those who do ISlaah; the MuSliHeen\/ Rectifiers\/Ameliorators.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 7: 171-187<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Have a Blessed Weekend!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Peace unto al<\/strong>l!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u0633\u0628\u062a<\/strong>: \u064a\u062f\u0644\u064f\u0651 \u0639\u0644\u0649 \u0631\u0627\u062d\u0629\u064d \u0648\u0633\u0643\u0648\u0646. \u064a\u0642\u0627\u0644 \u0644\u0644\u0633\u064e\u0651\u064a\u0631 \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0647\u0644 \u0627\u0644\u0644\u0651\u064a\u0646. \u0633\u064e\u0628\u0652\u062a\u064c <a id=\"_ftn1\" href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\"><a id=\"_ftn2\" href=\"#_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> That may be why some would consider \u2018Heetaanuhum\/\u062d\u064a\u062a\u0627\u0646\u0647\u0645 \/THEIR Heetaan (plural of Hoot) to be <em>their<\/em> fishing boats, and not <em>their<\/em> fish: The word \u2018Heetanuhum\u2019 clearly indicates the Heetaan were <em>theirs<\/em> but since the fish in the ocean belong to no one and cannot be designated as \u2018theirs,\u2019 then -as they say- it\u2019s about the fishing-boats which are bobbing about in the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-paragraph\">This narrative is \u2018gheyb\u2019 to us and cannot be proven one way or the other.
