{"id":523,"date":"2022-03-13T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-13T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=523"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:33","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:33","slug":"welcome-friends-day-89-quran-7-187-206-pages-175176","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-89-quran-7-187-206-pages-175176\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 7:187-206, pages 175+176"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"has-text-align-left wp-block-list\"><li>Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;Ahlan wa sahlan!<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Yusuf Ali\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;Translation of this Chapter.<\/li><li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Muhammad Asad\u2019s<\/a>&nbsp;Translation of this Chapter.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;In Verses 187-188, the Messenger Muhammad, peace upon him, was asked a question about the \u2018Hour,\u2019 to which he was told to relay a very important concept:&nbsp;&nbsp;That its knowledge is with His Lord-Sustainer, with God; that he (the Messenger) has no power to benefit or harm his own self except that which God has Willed; that \u2013had&nbsp;he known the Unseen- he would have amassed for himself all good fortune and would not have even been touched by misfortune; that he was no more than a Warner AND a Bearer of glad tidings to people who have Faith and Trust.&nbsp;&nbsp;Well-explained by Muhammad Asad, these verses illustrate the Prophet\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=188&amp;toAyah=188&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">humanness<\/a>.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;A similar argument appeared in HQ 6: 50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 189-190 follow up, after having mentioned that God Alone knows the \u2018gheyb\/unseen,\u2019 by telling us (here explained\/translated literally):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">&nbsp;\u201cIt is He who created you [all] from one \u2018Self\/Nafs,\u2019 and from her<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> He rendered her zawj\/mate, so that he would find \u2018tranquility\/sakan\/sakeenah\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> next to her, and then when he recurrently \u2018covered\u2019 her, she carried\/conceived a light&nbsp; burden and moved easily with it. Then, when she grew heavy they both called unto God, their Lord-Sustainer, &#8220;If You grant us a goodly (child) we shall most certainly be among the Appreciating!&#8221;&nbsp;(189) Then when He gave them a goodly (child) they both ascribed partners to Him regarding that which He had given them, Exalted is He beyond what they (all) ascribe\/shirk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This concept of mates providing \u2018sakan\/sakeenah\u2019 for each other is so beautiful, but being \u2018gheyb\/unseen\u2019 we can only understand it as presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Would this narrative sound familiar to parents who in early parenthood prayed humbly to God- with a promise of appreciation, and after getting what they had been praying for, tended to forget, allowing the Deviant SheyTaan to sidetrack them with regard to their children?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">A troubling thought which shows how hearts might change after one gets what one yearns for!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 191-195 continue on the absurdity and uselessness of shirking God and calling upon any other, when all other than Him are powerless, unable to do the most basic of actions.&nbsp;&nbsp; These verses are well-explained by both Ali and Asad, except for the meaning of \u2018Ibaad\u2019&nbsp;\u0639\u0628\u0627\u062f&nbsp;which is \u2018worshippers,\u2019 not \u2018servant\/slaves.\u2019&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The latter in Arabic would have been \u2018abeed\u2019&nbsp;\u0639\u0628\u064a\u062f&nbsp;&nbsp;. See <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2020\/11\/22\/day-14-hq-2-177-186-pages-2728\/\">Blog Post Day 14<\/a> for a reminder on the meaning of Ibaad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 196 is a statement of commitment to be made by any who repeat it (the Messenger \ufdfa was the first), as well as a promise from God that He is Protector and shall protect the SaaliHeen\/goodly\/virtuous\/principled\u2026!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verses 197-198 offer further examples of the absurdity and uselessness of shirk, ending with the statement that \u2018you see them looking at you and they do not discern;\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a> three words in one verse related to eyesight.&nbsp;&nbsp; Some exegetes think that \u2018they\u2019 refers to the idolators while others think that reference is to the idols.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 199 is a beautiful command to Prophet Muhammad, peace upon him, AND guidance to us all.&nbsp;&nbsp;See it in both interpretations of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=199&amp;toAyah=199&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=199&amp;toAyah=199&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 200-201 are very helpful for anyone who wants to hold the Deviant\/ SheyTaan at bay!&nbsp; These verses tell us that all we need to do is recall the most powerful invocation, which also happens to be the simplest: \u0623\u0639\u0648\u0630 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0634\u064a\u0637\u0627\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u062c\u064a\u0645\u2026 &nbsp;\u2018a3oothu bil-Lah\u2026.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Furthermore, we learn here that those who have Taqwa\/ Awareness &#8211; when touched by a Taa\u2019if\/ recurring insinuation<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a> of SheyTaan- would recall\/remember, and by recalling\/remembering would immediately discern: Discernment is the \u2018default\u2019 of people of Taqwa\/ Awareness!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Since we\u2019re doing IQRA!, let us look at similar verses about seeking protection in God\/ isti3aathah bil-Lah:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=200&amp;toAyah=200&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">200<\/a>&nbsp;is similar <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#41:36\">to HQ 41: 36,<\/a> and is one of several instances in the Qur\u2019an where the Prophet is told to seek refuge in God (<a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AA%D8%B9%D8%B0\">\u0627\u0633\u062a\u0639\u0630 \u0628\u0627\u0644\u0644\u0647 \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0634\u064a\u0637\u0627\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0631\u062c\u064a\u0645<\/a>).&nbsp;&nbsp;To understand the circumstances that necessitate him\/us to seek refuge in God, we must look to the CONTEXT of these verses.&nbsp;Reading them without their specific context robs them of their full meaning and allows biased and subjective NON-QUR\u2019ANIC applications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Here, the context is clear:&nbsp;&nbsp;It is to strengthen oneself in God\u2019s refuge, so as to enable the self-restraint and motivation required to fulfill the commands in Verse 199, which end with \u2018turning away from the ignorant!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">How about <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#23:97\">HQ 23:97?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/a> The context there is clear as well:&nbsp;&nbsp;It is addressed to Prophet Muhammad who was constantly harassed by certain chieftains (shayaateen) who wanted him to accept tenets which were important to them.&nbsp; He dreaded their approach HQ 23:98&nbsp;(\u0648\u0623\u0639\u0648\u0630 \u0628\u0643 \u0631\u0628 \u0623\u0646 \u064a\u062d\u0636\u0631\u0648\u0646) and was told to seek refuge in God so as to elicit the self-restraint and motivation required to keep repelling their false narratives &nbsp;\u0645\u0627 \u064a\u0635\u0641\u0648\u0646) \/ma yaSifoon) with that which is best \u2018\u0628\u0627\u0644\u062a\u064a \u0647\u064a \u0623\u062d\u0633\u0646\u2019&nbsp; similar to HQ 40:56 where he has to strengthen himself up to bearing their questioning doubts and arrogance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">How about HQ 41:36?&nbsp;&nbsp;This is also similar, seeking refuge in God (to elicit self-restraint and maintain motivation) but with the final result of converting previous \u2018enemies\u2019 into intimate friends!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Now we can better understand verses 201-202, and realize how seeking refuge in God will bring us back to Awareness and the proper channel of conduct, even after having been touched by a tendency to Deviate (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=201&amp;toAyah=201&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>).&nbsp; Their brethren \u2018ikhwaanahum\u2019 mentioned in 202 is taken by most to mean people who help promote SheyTaan\u2019s plans.&nbsp; Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%A5%D8%AE%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%87%D9%85\">&nbsp;the six instances of \u0625\u062e\u0648\u0627\u0646\u0647\u0645<\/a> in the Qur\u2019an which show this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Now, the only time we are commanded to seek refuge in God, and it is NOT related to the challenge of dealing with the negativity of other people, is <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#16:98\">in HQ 16:98<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;There, the purpose is to do IQRA of the Qur\u2019an as God had commanded.&nbsp; For us who have limited knowledge and are influenced by preconception, the challenge would be to understand Qur\u2019anic words and concepts as they were intended, and not to read into them what isn\u2019t there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 203 is addressed to the Prophet, peace upon him, giving us an idea of what he had to go through with the public, telling him how to respond- that this (revelation) is -what we might call today \u2018an eye-opener\u2019 for everyone to discern its truth, and it is -for those who have faith and trust- both huda\/gifted guidance and raHmah\/mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 204 telling&nbsp;everyone&nbsp;that when the Qur\u2019an is recited, they should not only listen, but also&nbsp;be completely quiet and focus&nbsp;on what they hear so as to grasp its meanings, perchance they will receive Mercy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 205&nbsp; speaks to the Messenger and to us all, telling us to remember\/bring mention to God within our own self in taDharru3\/complete compliance and dependence,<a href=\"#_ftn5\" id=\"_ftnref5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a> and in trepidation, without raising our voices, both mornings and evenings.&nbsp; These times are most special, <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%BA%D8%AF%D9%88%20%D8%A2%D8%B5%D8%A7%D9%84\">as we can see here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 206 ends this Sura\/Chapter with mention of \u2018those who are near\/with\/in the custody of\u2019 your Lord-Sustainer, never above worshipping Him, constant in their tasbeeH of Him, prostrating only to Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Commentators have traditionally taken this verse to be a description of the Custodian-Angels, but both Ali and Asad have broadened the concept to include special categories of humans who are high in spiritual attainment, thus near to their Lord (see&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=206&amp;toAyah=206&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=206&amp;toAyah=206&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Our next Reading is from HQ 8: 1-16.&nbsp;&nbsp;A new Sura\/Chapter!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Peace unto all!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> \u2018Nafs\u2019 is a feminine noun, which is taken usually to mean the \u2018nafs\u2019 of Adam.&nbsp; We must remember that there is no \u2018it\u2019 pronoun in Arabic; nouns are either feminine or masculine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">There are <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%AE%D9%84%D9%82%20%D9%86%D9%81%D8%B3%20%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%AD%D8%AF%D8%A9%20-%D8%A8%D8%B9%D8%AB\">three verses who speak similarly of the first \u2018Nafs\u2019 and \u2018her\/its\u2019 mate. <\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This verse however speaks not only of creation but also of procreation, which offers us a perspective which wouldn\u2019t confuse us if we thought of creation as a process, unrelated to our preconceptions.&nbsp; Being a matter of \u2018gheyb,\u2019 we do not delve into it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" id=\"_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> The word sakan\/sakeenah is about tranquility and stillness, settling, residing; home with family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">&nbsp;<strong>\u0633\u064e\u0643\u064e\u0646\u064e<\/strong>: \u0623\u064e\u0635\u0652\u0644\u064c \u0648\u064e\u0627\u062d\u0650\u062f\u064c \u0645\u064f\u0637\u064e\u0651\u0631\u0650\u062f\u064c\u060c \u064a\u064e\u062f\u064f\u0644\u064f\u0651 \u0639\u064e\u0644\u064e\u0649 \u062e\u0650\u0644\u064e\u0627\u0641\u0650 \u0627\u0644\u0650\u0627\u0636\u0652\u0637\u0650\u0631\u064e\u0627\u0628\u0650 \u0648\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0652\u062d\u064e\u0631\u064e\u0643\u064e\u0629\u0650. \u064a\u064f\u0642\u064e\u0627\u0644\u064f \u0633\u064e\u0643\u064e\u0646\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0634\u064e\u0651\u064a\u0652\u0621\u064f \u064a\u064e\u0633\u0652\u0643\u064f\u0646\u064f \u0633\u064f\u0643\u064f\u0648\u0646\u064b\u0627 \u0641\u064e\u0647\u064f\u0648\u064e \u0633\u064e\u0627\u0643\u0650\u0646\u064c. \u0648\u064e\u0627\u0644\u0633\u064e\u0651\u0643\u0652\u0646\u064f: \u0627\u0644\u0652\u0623\u064e\u0647\u0652\u0644\u064f \u0627\u0644\u064e\u0651\u0630\u0650\u064a\u0646\u064e \u064a\u064e\u0633\u0652\u0643\u064f\u0646\u064f\u0648\u0646\u064e \u0627\u0644\u062f\u064e\u0651\u0627\u0631\u064e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\" id=\"_ftn3\">[3]<\/a>&nbsp; Here -since what he touches us with has been called a \u2018Taa\u2019if\u2019- (doing \u2018Tawaaf\u2019) perhaps we might understand that it constantly returns, and reoccurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref5\" id=\"_ftn5\">[5]<\/a> Remember that worshippers in a state of \u2018taDharru3\/\u062a\u0636\u0631\u064f\u0651\u0639\u2019 are at their most compliant and vulnerable dependence, realizing their absolute need for God, having nothing\/no one other than Him on their minds and in their hearts (like a baby with its mother).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;Ahlan wa sahlan!
