God would not visit suffering upon them whilst Prophet Muhammad peace upon him was still in their midst, nor would God visit suffering upon them whilst they were asking for forgiveness.&nbsp;&nbsp;What a statement!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">According to Yusuf Ali:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u201cBut God was not going to send them a penalty whilst thou wast amongst them; nor was He going to send it whilst they could ask for pardon.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 34 then gives ample reason for Qureish DESERVING the penalty of suffering, seeing that they were preventing worshippers from the Inviolable House of Worship.&nbsp; The following statement is clear in them NOT having been protectors\/guardians of the Inviolable House; its guardians are The Aware, but most of them do not know that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It seems that to God, The Protectors\/Awliyaa of the Inviolable House are The Aware, and He Alone knows who would be deserving of that title among its custodians, its caretakers, its gate-keepers, its guards, and yes\u2026 perhaps even the worshippers for whom it stands.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">When this verse was revealed, it must have reminded everyone of Prophets Abraham and Ishmael who had built this House for the worship of God Alone, a far cry from Qureish who had planted more than 360 idols for worship around it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">See Asad\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=34&amp;toAyah=34&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">explanation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 35 describes the \u2018communion\u2019 or rituals which idolatrous Qureish would perform at the Ka\u2019ba, which had deviated from what Prophet Abraham, peace upon him, had instituted, and had become no more than whistling and clapping\/\u0645\u0643\u0627\u0621 \u0648\u062a\u0635\u062f\u064a\u0629.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 36 \u2013 37 speak of the difference between \u2018AlTayyib\/the Wholesome spending, and \u2018Alkhabeeth\/ the Unwholesome\u2019 spending.&nbsp; Those who Denied (alatheena kafaru) will ultimately discover that no matter what they had been seeking to obtain, they were in fact purchasing nothing but Regret\/ Hasrah\/ \u062d\u0633\u0631\u0629; the bitter fruit of their deeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">See Yusuf Ali\u2019s explanation of Verses&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=36&amp;toAyah=36&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">36<\/a>and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=37&amp;toAyah=37&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">37<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 38 is an ultimatum to Those who Denied, to be delivered by Prophet Muhammad, peace upon him.&nbsp;&nbsp;He is to tell them to desist, and the past will be forgiven, or to return to their ways in which case the \u2018sunna,\u2019 of those before them would be repeated (the \u2018sunna,\u2019 the precedent; the way in which earlier peoples were recompensed for their deeds).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Read it in Asad\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=38&amp;toAyah=38&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">explanation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 39-40 continue, telling the Messenger and his companions to fight against Those who Denied who had chosen NOT to desist despite the ultimatum.&nbsp; Fight them so as to prevent Fitnah\/ a trial by fire (causing turmoil and separation), and&nbsp;so that Accountability \u2018al-deen-&nbsp;\u0627\u0644\u062f\u064a\u0646 \u0643\u0644\u0647\u2019&nbsp; in its entirety, is God\u2019s Alone.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">After that, the Those who Denied could again desist or turn their backs; in any case, know that God will be your Protector and He is The Best of Supporters\/Bestowers of NaSr\/Benevolent Prominence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=39&amp;toAyah=39&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Yusuf Ali<\/a>&nbsp;translates \u2018deen\u2019 here as \u2018<em>justice and faith in God<\/em>,\u2019 while&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=39&amp;toAyah=39&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Muhammad Asad<\/a> translates \u2018deen\u2019 here as \u2018<em>worship,<\/em>\u2019 seeing the command to fight related to self-defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 41 details the distribution of war-booty.&nbsp;&nbsp;See Yusuf Ali\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=41&amp;toAyah=41&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">explanation<\/a>&nbsp;where he also tells us that the \u2018Day of Furqaan\u2019 is the day of the Battle of Badr.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" type=\"1\"><li>Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=42&amp;toAyah=42&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">42<\/a>&nbsp;begins to give us details about the Battle of Badr, making us actually feel we were with the Messenger and his companions on that defining day!<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Explained by Yusuf Ali:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u201cRemember ye were on the hither side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan on lower ground than ye. Even if ye had made a mutual appointment to meet, ye would certainly have failed in the appointment: But (thus ye met), <a>that God might accomplish a matter already enacted<\/a>; that those who died might die after a clear Sign (had been given), and those who lived might live after a Clear Sign (had been given). And verily God is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=43&amp;toAyah=43&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">43<\/a>&nbsp;tells us of the Messenger\u2019s vision, peace upon him, and shows us how God strengthened him by reducing the enemy in his eyes, for had He shown them to be many, he and his companions would have argued amongst themselves regarding the matter of fighting then and there, and would not have prevailed.&nbsp; However, God \u2018sallam,\u2019 gave them \u2018salaamah\u2019 (from fear, doubt, failure, etc), for He knows what is in the Sudoor\/ chests\/ heads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=8&amp;Ayah=44&amp;toAyah=44&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">44<\/a>&nbsp;tells us that this \u2018belittling\u2019 of the enemy was imposed upon both opposing parties, since God also let the enemy see the Messenger and his companions as deficient, which ended up with them losing the battle.&nbsp; This was done \u2018li-yaqDhi-Allahu amran kaana maf3oolan\/ \u0644\u0650\u0651\u064a\u064e\u0642\u0652\u0636\u0650\u064a\u064e \u0627\u0644\u0644\u064e\u0651\u0647\u064f \u0623\u064e\u0645\u0652\u0631\u064b\u0627 \u0643\u064e\u0627\u0646\u064e \u0645\u064e\u0641\u0652\u0639\u064f\u0648\u0644\u064b\u0627- for reason that God would bring to pass a <em>matter<\/em> of which the particulars<a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> were already in place.<a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; The \u2018amr\/matter\u2019 referred to here is the all-important battle of Badr.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Battle of Badr was THE&nbsp; most epic moment in the history of Islam.&nbsp; The victory\/prominence of the Muslims secured their position in Medina and crushed the long-held prestige of Qureish.&nbsp; The battle of Badr showed -and still shows to this day- the power of inner faith AND unity of purpose.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 8: 45-61.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> Furqaan is of the same grammatical form \u2018fa\u0639laan,\u2019&nbsp; indicating \u2018farq\/distinction\u2019 that is superlative and current, in the now. According to Al Tabari, Ibn Abbas said that \u2018Yawm al Furqaan\u2019 mentioned here was the day of the Battle of Badr, the 17<sup>th<\/sup> of Ramadan, when the distinction was made between&nbsp; right and wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" id=\"_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> We already spoke of the word \u20183amal\/\u0639\u064e\u0645\u064e\u0644\u2019 relating to general works\/labors\/deeds, while one\u2019s \u2018fi3l\/\u0641\u0650\u0639\u0644\u2019 is related to each particular deed which -when all are added up- constitute the \u20183amal. So here it is about the particulars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\" id=\"_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> This expression appears twice in the Qur\u2019an, here in Verse 44, and above in Verse 42.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref4\" id=\"_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> Remember, Verse 43 tells us that the vision which the Messenger had SAVED THEM FROM ARGUING about the battle.&nbsp; Arguing, on its own, would have put them firmly on the road to failure!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome Friends:\u00a0\u00a0Ahlan wa sahlan!
