{"id":577,"date":"2022-05-22T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-05-22T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=577"},"modified":"2022-12-30T09:27:33","modified_gmt":"2022-12-30T05:27:33","slug":"welcome-friends-day-96-quran-9-14-24-pages-189190","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-96-quran-9-14-24-pages-189190\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 9:14-24, pages 189+190"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As we said yesterday: Understanding the Qur\u2019an Linguistically AND IN CONTEXT&nbsp;is to everyone\u2019s best interest!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In this Chapter we notice that the Qur\u2019an urges Those who attained Faith to fight against the \u2018Mushriks of Qureish &#8211; the Shirkers who had shirked God and associated other deities with Him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We also notice that, after verse(s) urging firmness and severity we often find a verse which OPENS THE DOOR to reconciliation and even brotherhood.&nbsp; Such verses are mostly ignored by fanatics, whether they stand for or against Islam!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">There certainly was ample ground at the time for battling the pledge-breaking Mushriks! Besides the&nbsp;reasons mentioned in earlier verses, Verses 12-13 cite the following reasons:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;They had BROKEN their pledges after their covenant&nbsp;(\u0646\u0643\u062b\u0648\u0627 \u0623\u064a\u0645\u0627\u0646\u0647\u0645 \u0645\u0646 \u0628\u0639\u062f \u0639\u0647\u062f\u0647\u0645).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;They had DISCREDITED the Standard of Accountability&nbsp;held by the Faithful (\u0637\u0639\u0646\u0648\u0627 \u0641\u064a \u062f\u064a\u0646\u0643\u0645).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;They had plotted to expel the Messenger from Medina (in violation of their treaty with him).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;They were the ones who had instigated hostility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Let us contemplate the final statement in Verse 13 before we continue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong><em>\u201c\u2026. Are you in awe of them?&nbsp; While God is more worthy of your awe if you were indeed Faithful!\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Yusuf Ali\u2019s&nbsp;Translation of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">this Chapter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Muhammad Asad\u2019s&nbsp;Translation of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">this Chapter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 14-15 tell the Faithful to fight back and subjugate Qureish.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp; We mustn\u2019t forget that, to the Emigrants, this was THEIR OWN TRIBE who had oppressed them, which is why&nbsp;gaining victory over them would \u2018heal the breasts\u2019 (Ali) or \u2018soothe the bosoms\u2019 (Asad) of the Faithful as mentioned in verse 14.&nbsp;&nbsp;Such a victory would also \u2018still the indignation of their hearts\u2026\u2019 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=15&amp;toAyah=15&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>), verse 15.&nbsp;&nbsp;Note that Muhammad&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=15&amp;toAyah=15&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>&nbsp;refers the pronoun \u2018their\u2019 in verse 15&nbsp;(\u064a\u0630\u0647\u0628 \u063a\u064a\u0638 \u0642\u0644\u0648\u0628\u0647\u0645)&nbsp;to <em>the Mushriks<\/em>, explaining this statement in his commentary as \u2018and will remove the wrath that is in the UNBELIEVERS\u2019 hearts.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp; This is what commentators such as Zamakhshari say, and&nbsp;<em>is quite interesting!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2.&nbsp;The main concept in Verse 16 appears often in the Qur\u2019an, indicating that this earthly life is where we prove ourselves, one way or the other.&nbsp;&nbsp;This verse asks us whether we thought that we would be left without God \u2018marking out\u2019 -\u0639\u0644\u0645&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp; those who would exert themselves and take none other than God, His Messenger, and the Faithful as intimates. &nbsp;Read this verse according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=16&amp;toAyah=16&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=16&amp;toAyah=16&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>, and see HQ 2: 90-92.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Trials, tests, ordeals, hardships\u2026this is what drives us to put in the effort \u2018juhd\u2019 (\u062c\u0647\u062f), to various degrees of self-exertion \u2018jihaad\u2019&nbsp;(\u062c\u0647\u0627\u062f).&nbsp; As Cognizant Humans we must strive to fulfill our potential and prove ourselves.&nbsp;&nbsp;As Those Attaining Faith we must distinguish ourselves and let the strength of our faith and trust guide our actions towards all that is good.&nbsp;&nbsp;We discussed a similar concept and gave the definition of (\u2018allama) in <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/01\/10\/welcome-friends-day-34-hq-3133-148-pages-6768\/\">Blog Post Day 34<\/a> where we said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>\u201cMany people have fretted over interpreting \u2018liya\u2019lama\u2019 as \u2018so that God would know,\u2019 which of course is not correct since God\u2019s Knowledge encompasses all.&nbsp;&nbsp;Many do not realize that it is also linguistically inaccurate because the meaning of the word (\u2019allama) is originally related to making a \u2018mark.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3.&nbsp;The following verses demote idolatrous Qureish, signaling the end of their reign as custodians of the Ka\u2019ba, one of \u2018masaajid Allah,\u2019 the holy places of prostration to God.&nbsp; These verses also imply their imminent defeat in the power-struggle that had ensued between them and the new faith.&nbsp;&nbsp;Not many people realize that THIS POWER STRUGGLE was the main reason for Qureish\u2019s opposition to Islam (remember, they had offered the Messenger of God a \u2018power-sharing\u2019 option, whereby they would appoint him their leader and would accept his new faith if he let them keep their idol-gods AND their status!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>ECONOMIC LEVERAGE is an ideology of its own!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As custodians of the Holy Shrine, Qureish had been holding unchallenged reins over Arabia as to&nbsp;<em>who <\/em>was allowed to perform Pilgrimage, at what <em>time of day<\/em>, in what&nbsp;<em>months of the year<\/em>, from which&nbsp;<em>entry points<\/em>, in what&nbsp;<em>attire<\/em>\u2026 and they had benefitted in both prestige and Trade.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 17 DENOUNCES the Mushriks\/Shirkers in the upkeep&nbsp;(\u064a\u0639\u0645\u0631)&nbsp;of God\u2019s Houses of Worship, while Verse 18 identifies its RIGHTFUL UPKEEPERS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It informs us of the 5 characteristics required so as to qualify to upkeep God\u2019s Houses of Worship; characteristics which might merit the title of \u2018rightly guided-&nbsp;\u0645\u0647\u062a\u062f\u064a\u0646.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;Having Faith in God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;Having Faith in the Hereafter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;Upholding regular Prayer\/Communion with God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp; Advancing their purifying dues (in wealth and good conduct).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp; Standing in awe of none BUT God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Ali translates \u2018upkeepers\u2019 as those who&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=18&amp;toAyah=18&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">\u2018visit and maintain\u2019&nbsp;<\/a>while&nbsp;&nbsp;Asad says it is \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=18&amp;toAyah=18&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">those who visit or tend<\/a>.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;I agree with both, since what truly \u2018upholds\u2019 a House of God are its worshippers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 19, by way of a question, highlights the absurdity of their allegations.&nbsp;Read both&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=19&amp;toAyah=19&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=19&amp;toAyah=19&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>\u2019s beautiful comments regarding the positive characteristics of Those Who Have Faith in God and the Last Day, and exert themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is interesting to note that God does not gift-guide The Wrongdoers\/al Thaalimeen (who have earned themselves that title).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;Verse 20 posits a statement, giving further merit to Those Who Attained Faith and emigrated, and exerted themselves in their wealth and in their persons\/selves; such persons are of greater \u2018darajah,\u2019 translated&nbsp;&nbsp;by both Ali and Asad as a higher \u2018rank.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This isn\u2019t an accurate translation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We noted earlier the importance of the word \u2018darajah\u2019 in that it reflects on our understanding of other verses, such as when taken to mean \u2018rank\u2019 it could be construed to give males a \u2018higher rank\u2019 over females.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">See <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2020\/12\/13\/welcome-friends-day-19-hq-2-231-237-pages-3738\/\">Blog Post Day 19<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/02\/21\/welcome-friends-day-47-hq491-101-pages-9394\/\">Blog Post Day 47<\/a>&nbsp;where this is discussed and where we find the definition of the root-verb \u2018daraja\u2019 from our Lexicon:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Daraja<\/em>&nbsp;<em>denotes motion in Arabic, as in \u2018to step\u2019 or proceed forward or upward<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">No wonder emigration is a greater \u2018darajah!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Whether we emigrate physically or spiritually, we&nbsp;<strong>step up<\/strong>&nbsp;to the challenge and make, what is in fact, LIFE\u2019S GREATEST MOVE!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">That is why the verse ends by calling such persons Al Faa\u2019izoon\/\u0627\u0644\u0641\u0627\u0626\u0632\u0648\u0646 The Delivered, granting them salvation and deliverance as a Title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses 21-22 give glad tidings to Those Who Attained Faith &#8211; may WE be among them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 23 directly addresses Those Who Attained Faith and forbids them to take their fathers\/parents and brethren as protectors&nbsp;if&nbsp;they happen to favor Denial over Faith.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">7.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse 24 informs listeners who and what should be the object of their love, failing which they are to wait for God to bring about His Command, for God guides not the people who are pledge-breaking Deserters\/Faasiqeen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">That is so important .. and also\u2026.so\u2026. scary!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is as if the love of God is ingrained in us and when we turn away from that love we would have deserted what is innate in us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">What we&nbsp;<em>should love most<\/em>&nbsp;are God, His Messenger, and striving in His cause.&nbsp; We should love them MORE than parents, children, siblings, spouses, tribes, wealth, businesses, and homes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This seems impossible to live up to, especially when we are young and immersed in life.&nbsp;&nbsp;It is only when something happens to us and everything falls into perspective that we tend to realize what life is all about.&nbsp;&nbsp;Then however, neither the wealth we\u2019ve accumulated, nor the businesses we were fearful for, nor the homes we have enjoyed, will matter in the least.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Love will matter, and the Love of God will be first and foremost.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">His love for us and our love for Him.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The love of God is the only thing that can validate all our other loves and also guarantee our eternal enjoyment of those loves.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">When we think of someone we love most on earth we ask ourselves: Wouldn\u2019t we want that relationship to transcend this existence into eternity?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It can.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It will\u2026 when cradled in the love of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 9: 25-36.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> &nbsp;Qaatala\/\u0642\u0627\u062a\u064e\u0644 -from root-verb qatala\u0642\u064e\u062a\u064e\u0644\u064e\/- is about subjugating or fighting, but unlike qatala, the elongated \u2018aa\u2019 sound in \u2018qaatala\u2019 (according to the meaning of sounds) indicates return, response.&nbsp;
