Qur\u2019an, AlHamdulil-Lah; all Praise to God!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Yusuf Ali\u2019s Translation of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">this Chapter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Muhammad Asad\u2019s Translation of&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">this Chapter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;The following verses continue to speak of the Hypocrites\/ Al Munafiqoon (given the title in Verse 73).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In our last Reading we went through the lexical definition of \u2018nifaaq\u2019 which gave us many of the Hypocrites\u2019 characteristics, one of which is that they are escape-artists!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=86&amp;toAyah=86&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">86<\/a>&nbsp;refers to their attitude and behavior: When faced by Qur\u2019anic commands to have Faith and Trust in God and to exert themselves with His Messenger, even those who were fully capable among them&nbsp;<em>would ask to be exempted<\/em>, going further and telling him to leave them (alone) so they could be with those who are staying behind, literally \u2018sitting back.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=87&amp;toAyah=87&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">87<\/a>&nbsp;tells us that it contented\/pleased them to be among the laggards, and God sealed their hearts\/minds due to the fact that they had belied\/denied, and were unwilling to have Faith in God and his Messenger, and they do not \u2018yafqahoon\/comprehend.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We find this \u2018sealing\u2019 of hearts\/minds <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%B7%D8%A8%D8%B9%20%D9%82%D9%84%D9%88%D8%A8\">ten times in the Qur\u2019an<\/a>.<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>2.&nbsp;<\/em>Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=88&amp;toAyah=88&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">88<\/a>&nbsp;and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=89&amp;toAyah=89&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">89<\/a> provide contrast by showing us the characteristics of the Messenger and \u2018Those who had Faith WITH him,\u2019 and tell us of the gardens prepared for them, indeed THE great deliverance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Here we note firstly that they had exerted themselves in their wealth and in their selves which is the recipe for \u2018FalaaH\/Prevalence\/Success,<a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a> hence it is they who are Al-MufliHoon\/THE Successful (title-holders).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We also note the togetherness of the word \u2018<em>with\u2019<\/em>&nbsp;him in this instance!&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>(May WE be with him!)<\/em> This phrase, \u2018Those who had Faith with him\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%22%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B0%D9%8A%D9%86%20%D8%A2%D9%85%D9%86%D9%88%D8%A7%20%D9%85%D8%B9%D9%87%22\">appears in 7 instances<\/a> where we notice three things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;In 5 instances it refers to previous Prophets\/Messengers and their followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u00b7&nbsp;&nbsp;In 2 instances it refers to Muhammad, peace upon him:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">-Once \u2013related to this life- referring to him under his title as \u2018Messenger.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">-Once \u2013related to the Hereafter- referring to him under his title as \u2018Prophet.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>We should understand by now that reason for inferring different titles\/designations upon the same person, Muhammad, peace upon him, is Qur\u2019anic precision.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In the Hereafter, there will be no humans bearing messages, hence none of them is \u2018Messenger.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;As for those who had been God\u2019s Messengers in life, they will be referred to&nbsp;<em>by the title which differentiates them from ordinary humans<\/em>, and that title is \u2018Prophet.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;This relates to what we spoke about on Day 101, that the Prophet, <a>highlighted by his designation<\/a>, is a man prominent among people, interacting with them in daily life, whereas the \u2018Messenger,\u2019 highlighted by his designation is the bearer of God\u2019s Message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#4:69\">Let us also remember Q.4:69:<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u201cAnd whoever obeys God and the Messenger, such people shall be with those upon whom God has bestowed His Blessings: of the Prophets, the Truthful, the Witnesses, and the Righteous, and how goodly are&nbsp;such&nbsp;for company!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We noted when we studied this verse that \u2018Messengers\u2019 are NOT mentioned in this Blessed company in the Hereafter, whereas Prophets are.&nbsp;&nbsp; This proves that all God\u2019s Messengers were Prophets first and foremost, although not all the Prophets were delegated to deliver His Messages.&nbsp;&nbsp; Hence, \u2018Prophets\u2019 is their everlasting title.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">I disagree with Ali and Asad\u2019s usage of the non-descriptive term \u2018Apostle.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;Although both our translators have done a wonderful job, it is because of imprecise translation\/explanation that so much of Qur\u2019anic precision has been lost on us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3.&nbsp;Verse 90 mentions the (a\u2019raab-&nbsp;\u0623\u0639\u0631\u0627\u0628) the \u2018desert Arabs.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;Well explained by both&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=90&amp;toAyah=90&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=90&amp;toAyah=90&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">&nbsp;In verses&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=91&amp;toAyah=91&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">91<\/a>&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=92&amp;toAyah=92&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">92<\/a>&nbsp;we find the criteria for exemption, encouragement to supporters, and compassion for those who could not join him simply because they had no transportation, and had to turn away, shedding tears of sorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=93&amp;toAyah=93&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">93<\/a>&nbsp;again reproaches those who purposefully lagged behind despite their riches (offering neither wealth nor self in God\u2019s Way). However, while verse 87&nbsp;ended by stating that <a>(having denied Faith and Trust in God) their hearts\/minds were sealed and they do not have \u2018fiqh\/comprehension,\u2019<\/a> this verse ends by stating that their hearts\/minds were sealed and they do not have \u20183ilm\/knowledge.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">These two verses show us that the seat of comprehension and knowledge is the \u2018qalb,\u2019 the heart\/mind unit, which does not refer to the heart and brain as organs, but as one unit -an interactive faculty of ours- that sends messages back and forth.<a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4.&nbsp;Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=94&amp;toAyah=94&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">94<\/a>&nbsp;is well-explained by Asad.&nbsp;&nbsp;Here the Prophet, peace upon him, is commanded to announce to those who stayed behind that he will not listen to their excuses, that he and Those Who Attained Faith (named in Verse 88) have already been informed by God about them, and that neither he nor they would ever believe their feigned sincerity or trust them again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Notice the word \u201cnu\u2019min\u201d which is about \u2018eman,\u2019 <em>but here it is about faith and trust in people<\/em>, which might be surprising to anyone who doesn\u2019t know Arabic.&nbsp; The difference is obvious when the word is a verb, due to the preposition after it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Eman<\/em> or <em>aamana<\/em> + <em>bi<\/em>\/in&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; = is about having faith in &amp; trusting IN (the deity etc.. )<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Eman<\/em> or <em>aamana<\/em> + <em>li<\/em>\/to = is about entrusting oneself (without doubts) TO the sincerity and truthfulness of someone.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This was explained in detail in <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/02\/21\/welcome-friends-day-47-hq491-101-pages-9394\/\">Blog Post Day 47<\/a> where it impacted another very important verse where we learnt that a mu\u2019min -although most often used as a title for a <em>Faithful person in God<\/em>&#8211; could also be used to speak of a person who&nbsp;<em>trusts and believes in someone else\u2019s sincerity.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=95&amp;toAyah=95&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">95&nbsp;<\/a>&nbsp;calls such hypocritical persons \u2018rijs-\u0631\u062c\u0633\u2019 which, as we know, denotes \u2018turmoil.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Remember this excerpt:<a href=\"#_ftn5\" id=\"_ftnref5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cRijs: Taking the word \u2018rijs\u2019 in context \u2013 and cross-referencing <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%B1%D8%AC%D8%B3\">it in our search engine<\/a>&#8211; we find it appears 10 times in 9 verses, indicating an opposition to, or a Disconnect in, Faith, as in HQ10:100 and in our \u2018scientific marvel\u2019 6:125.&nbsp; That is how God brings about Turmoil upon those who do not have Faith and Trust.\u201d\u2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In verse 95 the Qur\u2019an does not simply accuse them of committing an act of \u2018rijs,\u2019 but actually states that they ARE \u2018rijs.\u2019 Wow.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are the <em>embodiment of<\/em>&nbsp;Turmoil.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rereading HQ2: 8-20 helps us understand this stormy connotation, especially since \u2018rijs <a href=\"#_ftn6\" id=\"_ftnref6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a>\u2019 is related to the sound of thunder, as we see in the definition which I have reattached below.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Qur\u2019an\u2019s eloquence AND precision are truly astounding!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;After Verse 95 told us that they had sworn with the intention of being left alone, verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=96&amp;toAyah=96&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">96<\/a>&nbsp;tells us that they also swore in the hope that the Prophet and Those Who Attained Faith would not be displeased with them.&nbsp;&nbsp;But here God delivers a severe statement to the effect that, regardless of whether the latter are pleased with them or not, indeed God is not pleased with the pledge-breakers\/deserters&nbsp;\u0641\u0627\u0633\u0642\u064a\u0646!&nbsp;(By now we have grown accustomed to Asad\u2019s use of the word \u2018iniquitous.\u2019)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">7.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verses&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=97&amp;toAyah=97&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">97<\/a>&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=98&amp;toAyah=98&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">98<\/a>&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=9&amp;Ayah=99&amp;toAyah=99&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">99<\/a>&nbsp;are about the A\u2019raab-\u0627\u0644\u0623\u0639\u0631\u0627\u0628&nbsp;, the \u2018Bedouin Arabs, during the time of revelation.&nbsp; I find these verses well-explained by Muhammad Asad -except for the term \u2018Salawaat il Rasool.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Aside:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Asad had travelled Arabia with the Bedouins until he almost became one of them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">If you haven\u2019t yet read his masterpiece \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/1887752374\/llpoh-20\">The Road to Mecca\u2019<\/a>&nbsp;please do so; it is a must for anyone who wishes to understand Middle East history, Arab culture, and Islam.&nbsp;It is also a highly entertaining adventure story for anyone who loves a good book and it makes a great gift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The A\u2019raab got their name from the verb \u2018araba-\u0639\u0631\u0628\u2019 which denotes eloquent self-expression (<em>yu\u2019rib<\/em>-\u064a\u0639\u0631\u0628&nbsp;means to express, and <em>arabi-<\/em>\u0639\u0631\u0628\u064a&nbsp;means eloquently self-expressive).&nbsp;Desert Arabs were the most eloquent in the Arabic language, and city-folk used to send their children out to the desert in their early years to learn proper uncorrupted Arabic from them.&nbsp;&nbsp;But Desert Arabs were also less likely to be versed in the knowledge of limits set by God in His Revelation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In their relationship to the Qur\u2019an, Desert Arabs were of three groups, just like everyone else:&nbsp;Those who were openly hostile, those who were hypocritical, and those who were faithful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is interesting to note the term&nbsp;\u2018Salawaatil Rasool-\u0635\u0644\u0648\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0633\u0648\u0644\u2019 in verse 99.&nbsp;&nbsp;Although it is usually explained to show that \u2018they sought the Messenger\u2019s prayers\u2019 (Salawaat being plural of Salaat), Regular Readers will recognize that the word \u2018Salaat\u2019 from \u2018Silah\u2019 or connection, also denotes relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The Desert Arabs, and indeed everyone at this point, even the open Hypocrites, were seeking a good relationship with the Prophet, as the preceding verses had so clearly shown!&nbsp;Remember, the hypocrites had sworn in their own defense, and sought to regain his pleasure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This is why the term \u2018Salawaatil Rasool-\u0635\u0644\u0648\u0627\u062a \u0627\u0644\u0631\u0633\u0648\u0644\u2019&nbsp;should be explained differently:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As I understand it, the verse 99 says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u201cAnd of The A\u2019raab are those who have Faith and Trust in God and the Last Day and take what they spend as means of closeness to God and connections\/relationship\/communion to the Messenger.&nbsp; &nbsp;Behold, it is indeed a means of closeness for them; God will admit them into His Mercy. Indeed, God is The Oft-Forgiving The Unceasingly Merciful.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 9: 100-111.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> See <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/11\/14\/welcome-friends-day-83-quran-7-96-116-pages-163164\/\">Blog Post Day 83<\/a> for the word \u2018to seal\u2019 Tab3\/\u0637\u0628\u0639<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" id=\"_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> FalaaH: Defined on Day 32<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\" id=\"_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> We spoke earlier about the study <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31728781\/#:~:text=Recent%20findings%3A%20Dr.,has%20its%20own%20nervous%20system.\">published by the National Library of Medicine<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cDr. Armour, in 1991, discovered that the heart has its &#8220;little brain&#8221; or &#8220;intrinsic cardiac nervous system.&#8221; This &#8220;heart brain&#8221; is composed of approximately 40,000 neurons that are alike neurons in the brain, meaning that the heart has its own nervous system. In addition, the heart communicates with the brain in many methods: neurologically, biochemically, biophysically, and energetically. The vagus nerve, which is 80% afferent, carries information from the heart and other internal organs to the brain. Signals from the &#8220;heart brain&#8221; redirect to the medulla, hypothalamus, thalamus, and amygdala and the cerebral cortex.
