{"id":610,"date":"2022-07-03T23:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-07-03T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/?p=610"},"modified":"2024-08-01T12:50:09","modified_gmt":"2024-08-01T08:50:09","slug":"welcome-friends-day-105-quran-10-1-10-page-208-209","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iqraprinciple.com\/ar\/welcome-friends-day-105-quran-10-1-10-page-208-209\/","title":{"rendered":"HQ 10:1-10, pages 208+209"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Welcome Friends:&nbsp;&nbsp;<em>Ahlan wa sahlan<\/em>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The subject-matter in our last Reading was tough, but I do hope that I have well-illustrated the necessity of keeping Qur\u2019anic verses -indeed everything we report \u2013 in context.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Also, since many people around the world (due to media bias and disinformation) do NOT realize that Islam is historically known for having been the most tolerant towards others, I think that they need to discover this fact, but not in our writings&nbsp;<em>as much as in our persons.<\/em>&nbsp;&nbsp;We must re-establish our tradition of respecting other people\u2019s faiths and cultures.&nbsp;&nbsp;Unfortunately, many of us have lost sight of that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is no coincidence that, the most convincing arguments today, and therefore those most likely to change mind-sets, are coming from scholars who have&nbsp;<em>embraced<\/em>&nbsp;Islam, rather than being born into it.&nbsp;&nbsp;I believe that one of the reasons for this is that when they look out, they see people, rather than a \u2018Muslim\u2019 versus \u2018non-Muslim\u2019 divide.&nbsp;&nbsp;And because people can feel this acceptance, they naturally soften to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Among such scholars are Sheykh Hamza Yusuf and Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah, both of whom speak eloquently about Islam\u2019s uniqueness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Dr. Umar Faruq Abd-Allah shows us how, even as Islam spread to other cultures, it kept them intact:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u201c<\/strong>Historically, Islamic jurists have upheld the Prophet\u2019s legal precedent for respecting non-Arabs\u2019 ethnic and cultural differences, as long as they did not contravene his teaching.&nbsp;Islam\u2019s spread and triumphant past reflects this glorious global culture.&nbsp;&nbsp;Like a crystal-clear river, Islam and sacred law are pure but colorless, until they reflect the Chinese, African, &amp; other bedrock over which they flow.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/cuhk.edu.hk\/rih\/csic\/en\/jiangzuo10.html\">Read&nbsp;complete article.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Yusuf Ali\u2019s Translation of&nbsp;our new&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Chapter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Muhammad Asad\u2019s Translation of&nbsp;our new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=0&amp;toAyah=0&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Chapter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>\u0633\u0648\u0631\u0629<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u064a\u0648\u0646\u0633 <\/strong><strong>\/ Surat Yunus<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>COMMENTS:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">1.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is the \u2018Chapter of Jonah,\u2019 of the late Meccan period and considered to be closely connected to the five that follow.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">According to Asad:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\u201cThe central theme of Yunus is revelation \u2013 in particular, the revelation of the Qur\u2019an to Muhammad, and the impossibility of its having been \u201ccomposed\u201d by the latter and fraudulently attributed by him to God, as the deniers of the truth assert (verses 15-17, 37-38 and 94). Woven around this theme are references to earlier prophets \u2013 all of whom were given the lie by the majority of their people \u2013 as well as a many-sided exposition of the fundamental tenets of Islam: the oneness, uniqueness and omnipotence of God, the continuity of His revelation to man, the certainty, of resurrection and of God\u2019s final judgment \u2013 culminating in the reminder (in verse 108) that \u201cwhoever chooses to follow the right path, follows it but for his own good: and whoever chooses to go astray, goes but astray to his own hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2.&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=1&amp;toAyah=1&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Verse 1<\/a>&nbsp;begins with the \u2018disjointed letters (A-L-R) which introduce us to this Chapter of the Qur\u2019an.&nbsp;&nbsp;We already discussed such beginnings on <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/10\/17\/welcome-friends-day-77-quran-71-22-pages-151-152\/\">Blog Post Day 77<\/a>.&nbsp; As our regular Readers know, such letters usually introduce the \u2018Compilation\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%20%D8%AA%D9%84%D9%83%20%D8%A2%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%AA%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%83%D8%AA%D8%A7%D8%A8\">as seen here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=2&amp;toAyah=2&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Verse 2<\/a>&nbsp; announces that the exclusive information \u2018waHi-\u0648\u062d\u064a\u2019&nbsp;which is sent to \u2018warn\u2019 people (in general) on one hand, gives glad tidings to Those Who Attained Faith, telling them of the \u2018qadam\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> -advantage or head-start- they have with their Lord-Sustainer, and that this advantage is one of \u2018Sincerity\u2019(qadam Sidq)!&nbsp; How beautiful this is, may we be among them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">&#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=3&amp;toAyah=3&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Verse 3<\/a>&nbsp;is somewhat similar to HQ&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=7&amp;Ayah=54&amp;toAyah=54&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">7: 54<\/a>, encountered in our Posting of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/10\/31\/welcome-friends-day-80-quran-7-52-64-pages-157158\/\">Blog Post Day 80<\/a>, asserting Who our Lord-Sustainer is; Creator, Maintainer of the Arch (of Creation<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3. The concept of \u2018istawaa\u2019 upon the Arch\u2019 appears here for the second time (<a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AA%D9%88%D9%89%20%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%B4\">seven times total in the Qur\u2019an<\/a>).&nbsp;&nbsp; Both Yusuf Ali and Muhammad Asad consider it metaphorical, while I believe it isn\u2019t, because God does tell us \u2018Qawluhu al Haqq;\u2019 His Word\/His Saying is <em>the True and the Just<\/em>\/Truth and Justice.&nbsp; So -Allahu a3lam\/God knows Best- but I think that what might seem incomprehensible to us IS IN FACT VERY REAL, and we need to look to the original meaning of the Arabi words to get as close to the truth of the ambiguous word as we can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">-Let us look at the word \u2018istawaa\/\u0627\u0633\u062a\u0648\u0649\u2019 from the root verb \u2018sawaya\/ \u0633\u0648\u064a\u2019 <a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Sawaya: Is about balance and moderation between two things; as in \u201cthis does not \u2018yusaawi\u2019 that,\u201d i.e. not equivalent to it. Or that \u201cso and so are on the same \u2018sawiyyah\/level.\u201d \u2018Sawaa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">\/ \u0633\u0648\u0627\u0621 is the center, so named because in houses and others, that is the part of it that is level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Derivatives of \u2018sawaya\u2019 appear in 80 verse of the Qur\u2019an, all related to the same concept of making something level, equal, balanced, even, proportional\u2026etc.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We already read <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#2:29\">Q2:29<\/a> where two derivatives of the word appeared, first saying that God \u2018istawaa\u2019 to the Exalted Expanse (singular), then that He \u2018sawwa\u2019 them into seven Exalted Expanses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">GENERAL RULE:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We cannot fathom how God Himself \u2018istawaa,\u2019 therefore we should never ever elaborate in our own words with regard to God, Jalla jalaaluh\/Exalted is He! This goes for everything related to God or to the unseen\/ gheyb which He Himself had not elaborated upon.&nbsp; We can only use His exact words as they are given to us and look to their original definitions as understood when the Qur\u2019an was revealed, without any elaboration.&nbsp; People naturally commit \u2018shaTan\/deviation\u2019 when they elaborate, hence we are told to seek refuge in God from the Deviant whenever we read the Qur\u2019an.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Now, looking at Verse 3 we note that, similar to other verses, <a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a> it tells us that it is God Who \u2018istawaa;\u2019 rightfully proportioning, \u2018balancing\u2019 the Arch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We spoke of this earlier and noted that the word \u2018arch\/\u2019\u0639\u0631\u0634 in Arabic (near-identical pronunciation and meaning to the English)<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a> expresses BUILDING, complete with raising and fortifying what is built.&nbsp;&nbsp;The \u2018arch\u2019 which the Qur\u2019an ALWAYS mentions with regard to&nbsp;God\u2019s Creation, is directly related to the form and function of this universe, as the receptacle of LIFE.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Kudos to our Muhammad Asad for the correct translation of \u2018ayyam-&nbsp;\u0623\u064a\u0627\u0645\u2019 as&nbsp;aeons!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In this verse we find mention of another \u2018gheyb\u2019 matter, that of \u2018shafaa3ah\u2019 or intercession, where someone petitions on behalf of another.&nbsp; This concept is mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%B4%D9%81%20%D8%A7%D8%B0%D9%86\">several times in the Qur\u2019an<\/a> where we note that it is mostly to say that THERE IS NO intercessor, and when there might be, it is with God\u2019s authorization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The verse ends by asserting that <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%84%D9%87%20%D8%B1%D8%A8%D9%83%D9%85%20%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%87\">God is our Rabb\/Lord-Sustainer and calls us to worship him<\/a>, indicating that there is something we should remember:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>This seems to be referring to our primordial testimony.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Remembering our primordial testimony we also remember that we belong to God and, as seen in the next verse,&nbsp; unto Him we shall return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=4&amp;toAyah=4&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Verse 4<\/a> tells us of God\u2019s promise in truth that to Him we shall all return, mentioning how creation begins and then starts anew for people to get recompensed for their actions positive for positive and negative for the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Notice the term \u2018qisT-\u0642\u0633\u0637\u2019 translated by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=4&amp;toAyah=4&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>&nbsp;as \u2018justice\u2019 and by&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=4&amp;toAyah=4&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Asad<\/a> as \u2018equity.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">QisT-&nbsp;\u0642\u0633\u0637\u2019 is about \u2018equity,\u2019 as in a provider meting out to a recipient what is rightfully owed; it is therefore between two parties only, provider and recipient (unlike justice\/3adl which is among many parties).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=5&amp;toAyah=5&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Verse 5<\/a> contains a \u2018scientific marvel\u2019 in that it differentiates between what we perceive as sunlight and moonlight; while the sun shines and is radiant, the moon just gives off light.<a href=\"#_ftn5\" id=\"_ftnref5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp; Here, we learn that God had projected the moon\u2019s cycles so that we would be able to mark out time and take count, all created in Truth and Justice; Signs distinguished and identified for people who know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=6&amp;toAyah=6&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">Verse 6<\/a> speaks of the alternation of night and day, and of all that God had created in the heavens and earth which constitute signs for those who are aware<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Both these verses speak of the wonders of creation being&nbsp;signs to us!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6. Verses 7-10 offer an example of what is termed \u2018targheeb and tarheeb-\u062a\u0631\u063a\u064a\u0628 \u0648\u062a\u0631\u0647\u064a\u0628&nbsp;\u2019 or \u2018persuasion and dissuasion,\u2019 which we spoke of&nbsp;in <a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/10\/24\/welcome-friends-day-79-quran-7-38-51-pages-155156\/\">Blog Post Day 79<\/a>&nbsp; when we discussed HQ 7:41-42.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Dissuasion here comes before persuasion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verses&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=7&amp;toAyah=7&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">7<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=8&amp;toAyah=8&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">8<\/a> speak of those who do not anticipate meeting God (\u0627\u0644\u0630\u064a\u0646 \u0644\u0627 \u064a\u0631\u062c\u0648\u0646 \u0644\u0642\u0627\u0621\u0646\u0627).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It is SO interesting to see them <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D9%84%D8%A7%20%D9%8A%D8%B1%D8%AC%D9%88%D9%86%20%D9%84%D9%82%D8%A7%D8%A1%D9%86%D8%A7\">mentioned 4 times in the Qur\u2019an,<\/a> three out of four in this Surah!&nbsp; While this verse shows us how heedlessly content they are with the lowly\/dunya life, other verses speak of their arrogant, challenging attitude (\u2018bring us another Qur\u2019an,\u2019 \u2018bring down upon us the custodians\/angels,\u2019 and \u2018let us see our Lord!\u2019).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Their recompense in Verse 8 is short and clear: Their abode is the Fire due to what they had been earning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">(P.S. The present continuous tense is interesting in these verses!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">7.&nbsp;Now comes persuasion <em>at its most beautiful<\/em> in Verses&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=9&amp;toAyah=9&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">9<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=10&amp;toAyah=10&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">10<\/a>, speaking of Those who&nbsp;have&nbsp;Attained Faith AND done good deeds, both in life and in the Afterlife!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Firstly, in life, THEIR Rabb\/Lord-Sustainer shall gift-guide them BY their faith and trust:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Notice the nurturing, intimate choice of words in God calling Himself THEIR Rabb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Notice how having faith and trust in God is designed to provide guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Secondly, in the Afterlife, they shall be praising God <em>\u2018SubHaanakAllahum\u2019 <\/em>and receiving&nbsp;greetings of \u2018Peace\/Salaam,\u2019 with rivers flowing beneath them in gardens of bliss. Their final invocation takes them full circle to the first call they made to their Creator in life, to the words that had never left their lips: <em>\u2018AlHamdulil-Lahi Rabbil-AAlameen.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=10&amp;toAyah=10&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">Ali<\/a>: \u2018Praise be to God, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Asad: &#8220;All praise is due to God, the Sustainer of all the worlds!&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">These two invocations are worth memorizing and saying in full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The scenes of dissuasion and persuasion offer listeners contrasting ends with a choice to make;
