Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=11&amp;toAyah=11&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">11<\/a>&nbsp;shows us the value of time and the reason behind delaying the full consequence to our actions; we are given ample time throughout life to learn from our mistakes, to rethink our decisions, and to make amends.&nbsp;But time flies!&nbsp;&nbsp;The less time we have remaining for us to live, the less the chance that we can adjust ourselves to the right course.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is why it is so important for us to find our way sooner, rather than later, in life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>No regret will ever burn more deeply than the regret of a Chance wasted, and a Time lost.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Regret is what suffering in the afterlife is all about <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#25:27\"><strong>(Q.25:27)<\/strong><\/a><strong>! <\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Notice that this verse (similar to Verse 7) speaks of those who do not aspire to meeting God.&nbsp; <strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">2. Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=12&amp;toAyah=12&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">12<\/a>&nbsp;shows us extravagant Human Nature; when people are touched by hardship they call urgently upon God, wherever they are and in whichever position they may find themselves.&nbsp;&nbsp;When hardship is cleared, they pass by as if no hardship had ever touched them.&nbsp; This is typical in extravagant people who not only feel entitled, but also feel that whatever they choose to do is the best choice; in other words: Their deeds are \u2018embellished\u2019 for them, as the Qur\u2019an says!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Here we are reminded of what we had discussed on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/iqralaan.wordpress.com\/2021\/06\/13\/day-65-hq6-7-26-pages-129130\/\">Blog Post Day 65<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>\u201cHow wonderful is it, that (as a search through the entire Qur\u2019an will show) God never harms, hurts, or distresses us:&nbsp;The <\/em>words&nbsp;\u064a\u0636\u0631\u0643\u0645<em>&#8211; are never mentioned, but rather He <\/em><em>\u2018<\/em><em><u>touches us<\/u><\/em><em>&nbsp;with\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=13&amp;toAyah=13&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">13<\/a>&nbsp;reminds us of this being a Meccan Surah\/Chapter; Qureish\/listeners are told here about earlier populations who did not have Faith and Trust in the clear messages delivered by their Messengers.&nbsp; The verse ends on a note of warning to the \u2018Mujrimeen.&#8217;<a href=\"#_ftn1\" id=\"_ftnref1\"><sup>[1]<\/sup><\/a> Those literally \u2018cut off\u2019 by their criminal acts.&nbsp; Here they\u2019ve cut themselves off from Islam itself (in <a href=\"http:\/\/tanzil.net\/#68:35\">HQ68:35<\/a> \u2018Mujrim\u2019 stands in opposition to \u2018Muslim\u2019)!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">3. Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=14&amp;toAyah=14&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">14<\/a>&nbsp;tells Qureish\/listeners that they are the \u2018successors\u2019 on earth to departed populations, and it is their turn to prove themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Here we note the term \u2018khala\u2019ef\u2019&nbsp;<em>on earth <\/em>(literally in the earth<em>)-<\/em>&nbsp; \u062e\u0644\u0627\u0626\u0641 \u0641\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0623\u0631\u0636&nbsp;and a little research &nbsp;(<a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%AE%D9%84%D9%8A%D9%81%D8%A9\">\u062e\u0644\u064a\u0641\u0629<\/a> \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%AE%D9%84%D9%81%D8%A7%D8%A1\">\u062e\u0644\u0641\u0627\u0621<\/a> &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%AE%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%A6%D9%81\">\u062e\u0644\u0627\u0626\u0641<\/a>) will show us clearly that human \u2018succession\u2019 is always about us succeeding the earth or each other &#8211; never succeeding God:<a href=\"#_ftn2\" id=\"_ftnref2\"><sup>[2]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>The Qur\u2019an NEVER mentions anyone as successor or vicegerent to God because a \u2018khaleefah\/successor\u2019 is one who arrives after the departure of a predecessor:<a href=\"#_ftn3\" id=\"_ftnref3\"><sup><strong><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/strong><\/sup><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>God is omnipresent and is not to be succeeded!!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We now know the importance of words, and what happens when they are misapplied.&nbsp; This matter should not be taken lightly, no matter which scholar we may be quoting; <em>we can always guard our own tongues<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Let us think before we say that something is \u2018just figurative\u2019 or that it is alright because so-and-so said it, especially when it is about God.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Let us ask ourselves: Do we want to fall into the category of people who <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D9%82%D8%AF%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%A7%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%84%D9%87%20%D8%AD%D9%82%20%D9%82%D8%AF%D8%B1%D9%87\">do not give God His rightful esteem\/qadr<\/a>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Nevertheless, we should see ourselves as cultivators, tending the earth and protecting all upon it -taking care of our larger global family just as we would our own.&nbsp; Words being of paramount importance, when we do so, would not call ourselves by any attributes indicating succession to God but rather, we\u2019d use a word indicating caretaking and guardianship: We\u2019d say we are \u2018Ru3aat\/\u0631\u0639\u0627\u0629\u2019 as in the Hadeeth.<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">4.&nbsp;&nbsp;In Verses 15 and 16 the Messenger is commanded to \u2018Say\u2026.\u2019 responding to those who \u2018do not anticipate meeting God.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=15&amp;toAyah=15&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">15<\/a>&nbsp;mentions two of their irrational demands, bringing them another Qur\u2019an or changing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Even though they made those demands without any intention of ever conceding -even if these demands were met- the Messenger was commanded to respond to them by stating that he was following what was revealed to him, peace upon him, and that he would not disobey his Lord, fearing the \u2018suffering of a great day\u2019 which also serves as an indirect warning to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">This is <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%A3%D8%AE%D8%A7%D9%81%20%D8%B9%D8%B0%D8%A7%D8%A8%20%D9%8A%D9%88%D9%85%20%D8%B9%D8%B8%D9%8A%D9%85%20-%D8%B9%D9%84%D9%8A%D9%83%D9%85\">similar to 6:15; 39:13<\/a> where our beloved Messenger mentions HIS fear.&nbsp; God knows best, but both his sense of responsibility and his humility come to the fore in these instances, peace upon him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=16&amp;toAyah=16&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">16<\/a>&nbsp;presents them with an even more detailed argument, and reminds them of the upright life he had led in their midst (he became a Messenger when he was 40 years of age).&nbsp; The end of the verse asks them how is it that they do not reason (3aqala: Use one\u2019s mind to secure knowledge).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">5.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=17&amp;toAyah=17&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">17<\/a>&nbsp;in Ali\u2019s translation is a little better because I don\u2019t agree with Asad\u2019s \u2018happy state.\u2019&nbsp;&nbsp;Note the \u2018interactive\u2019 question and remember what we said earlier; a question always gets&nbsp;its response, silent or otherwise!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The theme of belying God\u2019s signs is a recurrent one (see <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%A3%D8%B8%D9%84%D9%85%20%D9%85%D9%85%D9%86%20%D9%83%D8%B0%D8%A8\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Verse 18 is clearer in Ali\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=18&amp;toAyah=18&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=4\">explanation<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Qureish believed in an omnipotent God, but they also believed in the intercession\/\u2018shafaa3ah\u2019 of their idols, as do most people who venerate anyone besides God.&nbsp; Even today, intercession is very important to some who might -unknowingly- seem more reliant upon intercession than upon God\u2019s Mercy in His accepting our sound hearts and good deeds, but as we saw, it is a natural human trait to want someone to petition on one\u2019s behalf.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Make sure to read Asad\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=18&amp;toAyah=18&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">comments<\/a>, where he speaks of \u201cGod\u2019s symbolic grant of permission to His prophets to \u2018intercede\u2019 for their followers on the Day of Judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">As we said earlier on Day 105, intercession is a matter of \u2018gheyb,\u2019 mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/quran\/%D8%B4%D9%81%20%D8%A7%D8%B0%D9%86\">several times in the Qur\u2019an<\/a> mostly to say that there is no intercessor, and when there might be, it is with God\u2019s authorization.&nbsp; Since God in His Mercy is The One Who authorizes it, then it is an honorary intercession granted to someone held in high honor.&nbsp; To the followers of our beloved Prophet Muhammad, peace upon him, that honor is his.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Notice how the verse ends by questioning Qureish whether it is they who are informing God &#8211; what He does not know, and then saying they are committing \u2018shirk\u2019 by thinking that their idols or will intercede.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">6.&nbsp;&nbsp;Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=19&amp;toAyah=19&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">19<\/a>&nbsp;should be read with its commentary.&nbsp; Another verse which speaks of people once being of one mind before they differed is HQ&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=2&amp;Ayah=213&amp;toAyah=213&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">2:213<\/a>.&nbsp; Here we should return the word \u2018ummah\u2019 to its definition and understand it to be referring to \u2018umm,\u2019 one\u2019s preceding \u2018original\u2019 state.<a href=\"#_ftn5\" id=\"_ftnref5\"><sup>[5]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">In Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=20&amp;toAyah=20&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">20<\/a>&nbsp;Qureish asks the Messenger for a sign from \u2018<em>his<\/em>&nbsp;Lord,\u2019 by which they meant sign or \u2018miracle\u2019 from the unseen.&nbsp;&nbsp;The response he is told to give them is most eloquent, in that the Unseen\/Gheyb pertains to God Alone, and that they could wait for a sign from God if they so wished, and he would wait with them. This was a warning to them in that such a sign -when it arrives- would not be to their advantage seeing that they didn\u2019t have faith in God to start with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">7. Verse&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.altafsir.com\/ViewTranslations.asp?Display=yes&amp;SoraNo=10&amp;Ayah=21&amp;toAyah=21&amp;Language=2&amp;LanguageID=2&amp;TranslationBook=7\">21<\/a>&nbsp;begins with a general statement indicating that people who taste mercy (and ease) after their erstwhile distress has passed tend to distort and misconstrue the truths they had witnessed, truths which were at the time \u2018God\u2019s signs\u2019 to them.&nbsp; The expression is \u2018they have \u2018makr\u2019 in our Signs.\u2019<a href=\"#_ftn6\" id=\"_ftnref6\"><sup>[6]<\/sup><\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">We all know this to be true: How many times were we in the middle of a distressing situation that teaches us a valuable lesson, only to rethink the issue and justify for ourselves when the difficulty had passed?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The verse goes on to say that God is swifter in construing (than they could ever be in misconstruing); His (angelic) Messengers are compiling against them a record of everything they had misconstrued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Another word for \u2018makr\u2019 is to devise.&nbsp;&nbsp;We should not ask \u201c<em>How does God construe or devise<\/em>?\u201d as that is Gheyb, and we can only repeat what He says&nbsp; WITHOUT ELABORATION.&nbsp;&nbsp;We try to understand what the Qur\u2019an tells us about God in general, leaving the specifics to Him.&nbsp;&nbsp;But as Lexicons tell us, \u2018makr\u2019 is of two kinds, the positive and the negative, and is related to what people misconstrue\/devise of Falsehood, versus what God construes\/devises of Truths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Enough said!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Our next Reading is from HQ 10: 22-33.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-text-align-left\"><strong>Peace unto all!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" id=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> The root verb \u2018jarama\u2019 <a href=\"http:\/\/tanzil.net\/#search\/root\/%D8%AC%D8%B1%D9%85\">always appears in the Qur\u2019an in a highly negative context<\/a>; the root-verb \u2018jarama\u2019 denoting something which is cut,[1] or has dropped like flawed fruit off the tree!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref2\" id=\"_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> May God forgive us for any familiar words we might have said or arguments we might have repeated that deviated from His Word which is Al-Haqq. May we always beware of shirk, whether in words or deeds.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref3\" id=\"_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> In condolences we say to the bereaved: You are the best \u2018khalaf\u2019 to the best \u2018salaf\u2019 (the deceased).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><a href=\"#_ftnref4\" id=\"_ftn4\">[4]<\/a> The Prophet \ufdfa is reported to have said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-text-align-left\">\u201cEach of you is a caretaker\/guardian and is responsible for his dependents. The leader of people is a guardian and is responsible for his subjects. A man is the guardian of his family and is responsible for them. A woman is the ardian of her marital home and children and is responsible for them. The servant is guardian of the property of his master and is responsible for it. Surely, every one of you is a guardian and is responsible for his dependents.\u201d [Sahih Bukhari 6719, Sahih Muslim 1829] Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
